Hello everyone,

I recently got into making EDM music. I have just finished my second EDM song I've ever written. I wanted to show some people who are die hard EDM fans to tell me how I'm doing. I'm open to constructive criticism. Check the song out on my SoundCloud page at the link below. Thanks!

Hey there,

For an early track, this isn't too bad. You've got some decent musical ideas here...once your technical production skills develop, you'll probably start to notice a large change in 'sound quality.'

Here's some things I thought as I listened:
1) You've got a couple of sounds fighting for the same room in the frequency spectrum a few times. Make sure you're EQ-ing out all frequencies from your sounds that aren't needed. A lot of times you'll want to EQ out the low end from your non-bass or kick sounds, etc.

2) Everything in the track you've shared is pretty dead-center panning wise. To get a fuller sound, try panning things left and right of center (in moderation, and in balance). Sometimes you'll want to have two copies of your string sounds (for example) playing at the same time--one panned to the left and one panned to the right. Play with this a little bit on your melodic sounds and see what you come up with. As a general rule, leave your main percussion and bass in the center, though.

3) Try to add in a few more exciting percussion elements. Right now all I can hear are a kick, a closed high hat playing 16th notes and the open high hat on the off-beats. Experiment with some other percussion and try to EQ the high hats better to make them shimmer and stick a bit more out of the mix (not too much!).

4) From what I hear it sounds like you're a fan of producers like Andy Blueman or SoundLift or the like. You've got a lot of cosmic-sounding elements in this little track, and that's cool. If that's the kind of music you want to produce, keep at it...it'll take a lot of work to get that kind of instrumentation and melodic composition down, but it's definitely a good goal to set!

Hope this helps! Best of luck!
