Hey all,
I've been hammering away at an intro track for an upcoming album project that I'm working on and I think I've gotten something that I'm close to being happy with. Now, I'd like to pass that through your filters as well. Below is the link to the track on SoundCloud (I can't embed it because I want it to be private):

I'm mostly looking for technical feedback, such as production quality, mixing, mastering, and the like, but I'm also open to musical feedback if you've got any!
Thanks in advance for any opinions/suggestions you can give!

Just a shameless bump to keep this on the first page for another day.
Side note I made some changes to the mixdown to improve the stereo 'width' of some of the track overall. Let me know what you think. |

Hey Jono88, thanks for the listen & reply!
I can see it being a bit long for some people's tastes, but this is really how I prefer to start off the entire mix so I'll probably end up keeping it to it's current length.
I'm very glad you liked the quality/sound! Was there anything that you thought I could improve other than length? If not, no worries!
THANKS FOR YOUR FEEDBACK!!! :) |

i don`t know what to say about what you should improve
i think you should make from that 9 min track a 3 -4 min super track because from what i listen there looks like a prof intro

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback guys.
To address the length, there is a section that I am thinking about cutting...it's the portion from 2:21 through 2:51. That'd shave half a minute off of the track. Thoughts?
Another area that might be a bit too long is the 'bassy' section from 3:22 until 4:52. Perhaps I could make that buildup a bit quicker, maybe remove 16 bars or so and cut off about 20-30 secs. That would bring the total track length to around 8:30.
That being said, realize that the last 1.5 minutes are going to be used to transition into the next track of the mix, so really the listener is only going to get about 7:30 out of the track as it stands.
Thanks again for all of the feedback. Any other suggestions are still more than welcome! |

| Well, I'm no sound engineer, but basically terrible fidelity. It sounds a lot like terrible speakers that are straining to get the sound out. The sound has that sort of nails on blackboard timbre during long tones, but not necessarily echo. |

Hey Damien...thanks for the feedback!!!
I'm quite interested to learn a bit more about your comment...it's the first sound quality complaint I've heard from sharing this track with almost a hundred other 'non-engineers.' That being said, its exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Everyone just keeps saying it sounds great so I'd like to really address your thoughts
Can you explain what you mean a bit better? Are you talking about the overall sound or an individual sound in particular? Could this be related to the losses of exporting the track as an .mp3 from a third party program? Perhaps SoundCloud's audio compression? Obviously I'm no pro at this so if you could give me some pointers I can work with that'd be greatly appreciated!
THANKS AGAIN!!! |
