I baked my warped vinyl in the oven and it Worked!!

So I got the most warped vinyl I had ever seen in my life from Planetxusa but I have to give them props because when I told them via email, they immediately credited my account no questions asked so that was cool.

So I have this Sunscreem Vs Push - Please Save Me vinyl and the side I bought it for, the Push remix side, was the one unplayable. This vinyl was warped so badly, it was like a poptop. You could bend it in and it would stay that way and then pop back out. Severe warping. So I thought I had nothing to lose by trying something I've always thought about but never had the opportunity to do. Here is what I did.

I removed all the racks from the oven and turned it on at 500º F. I let it heat up and then after a while, opened the oven to let some of the heat get out. Using oven mits, I held the vinyl in the middle of the oven bending it and applying pressure very gently in the opposite direction from which it was warped. I wasn't sure just how hot vinyl needed to be but to my surprise within 10 seconds it started to bend. I was actually shocked at how quickly and how plyible the vinyl became. I quickly placed the vinyl in between 2 large sheets of cardboard and put a great amount of weight ontop of them and let it sit for a while to cool. After only a few minutes, I took it out and to my surprise I had basically reversed the warp to the other side of the record, but not even half as bad. I slapped it on my 1200 and the side previously unplayable now played fine.

I can assure you all this is no joke and it really worked for me. If you have a severly warped vinyl, its worth a try. You have nothing else to lose. The most important thing to remember is just how fast the heat affects the vinyl. I went in thinking I would have to have hellish temperatures but I was wrong. If any of you have tried this or have other successful vinyl de-warping stories, lets hear them! :toocool:

Yea, ive tried this before but w/ many diff. outcomes.......

When u used the cardboard, was it pieces big enough to cover the whole record......about how much lbs. did you put on the record after the heating.

Here is all what I've tried:

**Heated in microwave.......works so so but usually returns back as soon as I take it out......I don't leave it in no longer than 15 sec a turn.
**Heated on top of stove.....put it close to the eye and it warped back into place alright....freakin made the needle pop up about 10 ft. in the air.....that record suck anyway and was cheap so only loss $.99.
**Heated inside the oven on flat surface, haven't really tried it to see an affect but it warm the record up and tried to shape but nothing good came from it.
**I sat the record on a flat surface outside on HOT sunny day w/ pressure on top of it.......nothing happened but ants were using it has a heating source......:D

All these where 4 diff. records and I have not even had one playable record from it.....well they play but the needle moves like there are 8 ft tides underneath it and thats annoying.

When I took it out of the oven after bending it, I placed it onto a cardboard square shipment container that companies send you vinyl in so it did cover the whole record. Then I stuck another such container on top of that in a sandwich formation. Then I put a phone book on top of this sandwich and sat on the phone book. I felt this would give it a lot of pressure on the vinyl evenly throughout. I sat on that bitch for about 8 to 10 minutes I would say.
