It's so sad, in this day and age. Promoters feel they have to bring cheesy hands-in-the-air pop anthems to sell bottles and get girls to the club.
On the other hand, there's the super underground 'trendy' audience that listen to what Resident Advisor or Beatport tell them to listen to. Everything else in the middle just gets left out.

Saw Eelke, Sasha and Guy J all play amazing sets at Rainbow Serpent in January. Wish someone had recorded those.

I love the original mix but this is not bad

The whole "bottle service and girls" argument really doesn't apply to the UK club scene. Progressive is just not very popular here at all.

Prog is in this weird in-between state. It's either too deep or too candy for most people.

It's in a bad way. Progressive used to have a bit of everything. Now it doesn't have much of anything.

That and the early 2000's prog explosion probably burned a lot of people out on the sound.

Speaking of early 2000's prog here you go with a promo mix by Eelke from 2004... Enjoy! :)

The problem with progressive house is a bit strange. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it basically music that is made for big rooms, but yet is not quite popular enough to fill one up, in most circumstances. That's why you only have a select few that really fly the flag for the genre, i.e. guys like Hernan, Guy J and Nick Warren. This is exemplified quite well in the fact that oftentimes, you will have progressive house producers who end up playing other styles like deep and tech house if they are let's say opening for another DJ. Modern progressive house is just not versatile enough in my opinion.
