| Is there anyone here from New Brunswick? I'm looking into going to work in that area for a while as I'm of Acadian heritage and want to see the area and possibly live. What is the quality of life like there? |

You're not going to find much decent work there right now sadly.
While it's not the nearly entirely resource based economy it once was, it is still economically stunted. I've got several close friends here that are from NB & they're continuously asking me if I have any leads on jobs here or elsewhere that they can put friends & family on to.
Don't get me wrong. I spent a good chunk of my life's summers growing up in Nova Scotia & travelling through NB. It's a glorious side of the country to explore. But the quality of work, and subsequently life, has diminished from those days I knew in the mid-80's to 90's. At one point I had 40 family members between NS, NB, & PEI. Now, 39 are in Ottawa & 1 is in NS.
But that's just my personal experience. |

| compared with the high crime and collapsing society in the States, anywhere has to be better than here. I'm from Louisiana so that is where my heritage is from and we are use to tough life. I'm still curious about NB and NS. |

Well, that does change things somewhat.
I'm basing my comparison on Atlantic Canada versus Ontario and Western Canada in terms of employment; and my experience on that of my family which is an entirely Canadian one.
However, if you're looking to make a drastic change such as that, you could likely find a service industry job out there that could support you while you explore life in the region. Just don't count on the fisheries or other such traditional natural resource jobs as times for those industries are very tough right now.
At the end of the day, you're likely right about one thing: nothing ventured, nothing gained. |
