[apologies right up front if out of place, but it has relevance / interest to people here, imho]
Ok, why posting this?
For:
a) anyone who is interested in vinyl-playback as a professional / collector / listening medium
b) very compelling material on that vinyl
c) sound reproduction of that with a quality you just never get to hear normally
What is this?
It's a vinyl showcase during the New York Audio Show, 4/12-4/14, which features some of the best recorded/produced/mastered albums with music of real substance.
The albums are played full-through without interruption (other than the flip)
See the link below for what software is being played, and schedule. Some highlights (for me):
Kraftwerk -- Autobahn
Talking Heads -- Remain in Light
Beach Boys -- Pet Sounds (the mono version, yeah!!)
Love -- Forever Changes
The hardware:
total state-of-the-art high-end-audio porn!
(state-of-the-art F1, other than absolute level, can't match)
the front-end alone (Spiral Groove table) is a Bimmer 1 series, assuming arm and cartridge to match.
Full vacuum tube electronics from VTL, including the Siegfried monoblocks (google 'em).
Wilson Audio Maxx 3 speakers, enough said.
not to mention the wire.
true super-system
What else? see the event description in the link below.
Reading a car mag, there's the car-porn: Porsche/Ferrari/Lambo/Bentley, but that's it, no do, no go.
Not here, with these high-end audio events, you do get to sample that stuff.
(kind of makes you hate your own set-up afterwards, no matter how good, but worth it anyway)
Unlike regular demos / demo rooms, CAS is great, because they don't just play 5 min fluffy sonic-spectaculars (which is fun too of course), but some of the best sounding music with substance. Great combo.
And that Tony Rohr party at System should end just in time to make the"Autobahn" session!
(if anyone here appreciates the finer aspects of vinyl, Fremer is the man, and there's that screening on Friday too...)

if you've made it down this far:
CAS does somewhat regular NYC events as well, see the events link on their site (with a not so totally over-the-top, but really good, system). |
