Do you know who Oliver Cromwell is? Have you seen gangs of New York? Do you know where the term "nigger" even comes from? Do you have any idea about anything that you're saying right now? You realize not all Irish people have red hair right?
Red haired people roofing. :stongue:
You can go back to making your jersey shore audition tape now. |

I think sushi does a decent job given the situation. The way the forum's run overall is though. |

The n word is just a southern bastardization of the Spanish word for black. It doesn't matter where the word comes from, but how it's used. Mick is a derogatory term, just like n*gger, wop, gook, etc. the funny thing about gook is that it's a play on hanguk, a word Koreans use for themselves. You see, it doesn't matter how the term originated, but how it's used. |

Yeah, but your claim was the severity of the words were the same. and they're not. Slurs aren't only one-dimensional. You gotta factor in the hate-quotient too. And the so-called N-word is far more loaded word then mick. It's about what it represents. It represents being dragged from your country, your continent, and if you were among the few who survived you were destined to a life of slavery and despair, and the subsequent fight for freedom the blacks have had to go through as a race. that's what that word meant. (didn't u learn anything from django unchained?)
the irish came by their own free will. the slur mick comes as a result of them the new kid in class. every race has slurs like that against them, but NONE of them can be compared the n-word.
maaaaybe kike, but that's kinda still a different category again imo. |

The Irish were pulled from their country as well and made to be slaves. Have you ever heard of the phrase to hell or to Connaught? They were either forced into labor in Ireland or the Caribbean, (imagine a bunch of pasty Irishmen in the tropical sun doing forced labor) or they were killed outright. Oliver Cromwell made the Irish people slaves, it's just not as widely known as the African slave trade. Granted, it didn't go on for as long, but to say Irish people didn't go through the same persecution and torment is untrue. |
