I can appreciate dub step and understand why kids like to stake their own musical territory just like kids once did with distorted guitars whilst their elders looked down on it as new fangled noise. I well recall the mainstream folk hating trance when it emerged - they just didn't get it.
In the UK there was a campaign against synths!
Don't reject the new - be it dubstep, gay marriage or UFC. Have an open mind. |

| I really don't care if i was 60. I love making music and if takes that long to be famous then screw it who cares. You maturity won't degrade your sound it will only sound more intelligent. |

| How about gay guys who make dubstep who fight each other in the UFC. Zero rubbers, come flying everywhere! Sounds like a ty porn. Unless there was some . Then it would be fecal. Fecal is hot. Very hot. Anyway this thread is stupid. I mean, wtf is COOL EDM? God dammit, sometimes you guys.... |

It's serious. You have a bunch of 30+ producers who are from this forum, some in their 40s, some who are actually pretty good, but others who are just gear whores and are living out their glory days. Just do what I do and listen to Rann, L4C, Meriter. TranceElevation is good sometimes too.
Rann and Clooney are a tag team though. Watch out. |

the second you no longer have a grasp of what the youth are into, its over. If you continue to expose yourself to as much new music as possible, age has nothing to do with it. White people do just turn into guitar wanking s or nerdy guys with glasses and every so often someone that is kinda cool. Black people are much more resilient to this.

Trap is absolute ing garbage....there are ZERO redeeming qualities in it and its honestly nothing new. the mexicans and dj screw have been doing arrangements just like today's "Trap" since the late 90's. the style wasn't good enough (not even close) to get really popular outside of South Texas. The only reason it has a mild following/interest is because of the internet and current technology. (Which is one of the downsides to technology and easy media sharing, spreading GOD-AWFUL-)
Same can be said for cheesy vocal progressive house these days. There is nothing appealing about basic percussion loops + 947 saw's + cheesy ass female vocal talking about love + C Major on every track @ 128bpm.
The world would be a better place if the above two styles were destroyed along with all of the people who listen to them. They offer NOTHING to music or this planet.
Dubstep is close, but there are a few things it brings to the table. |

To each his/her own. Just because you do not like it or appreciate it does not make it note worthy. That is an opinionated statement.
Kids listen to some crazy these days, it does not mean I have to listen to it or even care. But I would never lessen it to crap.
My cousin who went to school for music used to tell me that Rush was "garbage" and would never see past 3 albums and forgotten a year after there last. Now..I still give him over that.
If I am hearing you right as well, I believe the "Latin" style of hip hop you are referring to (in relation to trap) was called Freestyle.
It was actually early 80's that the music style was created in New York. Although, I came to hearing it in the S.F. Bay area. It was the flamming cymbals, orchestra hitting synth's with the "original" 808 kick drums implemented. All of which elements are still used today.
This was a VERY popular genre. I use to DJ it, and no...I am not Latino..I am as white as they come. In some ways, with the "Disco" element in the genre, House music stemmed from it. I wouldn't say it was unpopular at all because here it is still today being used. Hell, even Armin van Buuren used freestyle beats in In & Out of Love....
As for dubstep, the redeeming quality is if your truly interested in Dubstep it almost forces you to know and understand sound synthesis. At the very least you have to give credit to that. It makes a young producer understand the difference between a saw and a square. Granted, it is becoming more and more redundant and kids are used to loops and premade samples. |
