I'm fascinated with weather. In Florida, hurricane season is an event for me.
Watching one start as a wave off the West African coast and strengthen into a fierce machine of Mother Nature is beautiful to me.
I've been through tornados in Oklahoma, blizzards in Toronto and monsoons in South Korea.
I've thought about becoming a storm chaser in the past lol
Anyways, I was curious if anyone in the COR has had any notable run-ins with the forces of Mother Nature. What happened?

This past winter I had to drive a minivan to my friend's cottage for a few days in December. All was well until we stopped at a Taco Bell for something mildly edible. While we were in the Taco Bell it started snowing a fair bit, which didn't bode well for a fully loaded minivan with 7 people, and no winter tires. The roads were so damn slippery that my braking had to be telepathic because unless I applied the brake before I knew I needed it, it'd be too late. There was one bit that was downhill towards a T-junction and a river; I was 80% sure I'd end up in that river.
That was without a doubt the worst drive I've ever had to make, and that's saying something because I'm on of those people who takes every chance possible to go for a drive.

I love extreme weather! Although, to be fair, the most awesome typhoon-like rain I've ever seen was something Will keeps calling a "micro-burst"... and I'm pretty sure the only blizzard I've ever seen was something Canadians call "summer shower".
Still, I do have a good story about how Kaoru (my wife) thought her hand was frozen in the aforementioned blizzard... but it looks boring on paper/screen :(

Next Sunday snow is expected, and I absolutely don't want to shovel our driveway again. Hello Weather, it's March!!! and we need some sun.

We get some pretty bitchin' storms here in the summer time. I remember one years ago, I was leaving my friends place and walked a couple of minutes to the train station. Just as the train comes it starts pelting down with rain and hail, loads of thunder and lightning, and this insane wind comes up out of nowhere. Everyone scrambled to get onto the train, the doors close, and BAM a tree falls on the train and kills the power. This is at just after 3pm on a weekday, so the train is packed with screaming school kids now, lol.
We waited the storm out then manually opened the doors to get off. I walked back to my friends house and the entire roof had been torn off it, and was deposited in the middle of the road about 50 meters away :wtf: Fun times.

When I read Taco Bell I thought this story was going to head in a different direction.

in October 2005 I was trapped in Cancuun during Hurrciane Wilma
What started off as a tropical storm rapidly gained strength shot to a category 5...
I was on a family vacation and we were staying at a resort about 2 miles from Daddy O's. We were relocated from the resort to a school in the ghetto part of cancuun to provide a storm shelter. The storm lasted 32 hours with winds going over 170mph.

it's snowing here today. i had to shovel about that much snow off the car this morning lol. march is always the snowiest month in CO :p
i also love extreme weather. i would love to see a tornado upfront as someone said. that must be awesome.
