Scott Hardkiss, the Bay Area DJ icon who helped spearhead the 1990s rave scene, has died, as Big Shot (via SPIN) reports. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed. He was 43.
In the 1990s, Hardkiss, born Scott Friedel, was one-third of the Hardkiss Brothers in San Francisco. He began working under the moniker God Within in 1993, releasing the classic "Raincry". In the late 1990s he relocated to New York and continued working as Scott Hardkiss. His debut solo full-length, Technicolor Dream, came in 2009.
As SPIN notes, Hardkiss had eye transplant surgery in 2011, to restore vision to his left eye, which he had lost due to Keratoconus disease, but the condition had worsened as of last year. |
