It's a nickname for American dubstep (of the wobbly and loud kind). I'm not really fond of using it, and I've whined about it before, but it's what separates Burial and Skrillex, apparently.
And Big Beat is way better than Brostep. For one thing, I was 12 when it came out :p

Dubstep in general's been such a sullied name that good stuff like Burial gets called future garage or post-dubstep.

Hey, is there a name for 170 BPM fast dubstep? Half-tempo drum'n'bass? Upstep?

Which are both better names than "bass music."

Examples? What you describe could be minimal drum 'n bass, but I suspect it's something altogether more brash.

Yup, Sykonee hit the nail on the head. I looked it up and confirmed: It's drumstep. The tracks Russell posted are good examples of what I had in mind (he knows my taste in music :p), and I found out there are even remixes with the word "drumstep" in it to define the genre:
I had no idea. I was about to PM you about this, to be honest, because I love the stuff, but I had no idea what it was called.
Thanks guys :)

Oh I didn't even know this had sub genres
Lira
Well, everyone wants to create a new genre. Or a sub genre. Or a sub sub genre... so it was bound to happen after a week or so :p
There's chillstep, brostep, post-dubstep, and probably even stepstep if you look hard enough.
