it's still most likely several years off. So until the Guv actually announces that it will be closing, it's a little early to be saying goodbye. |

If Toronto "clubland" as an entity was actually concerned enough about having viable spaces in which to hold events, then there would have been considerably more action taken than a Toronto Star article and the occasional message board thread. These scene here is far too small, self-serving and corporatised to present any sort of unified voice in the political arena.
When GEMA announced a new tariff structure for nightclubs in Germany, 300,000 people across Europe (285,000 of them from Germany) signed a petition opposing the tariffs and a combined 2,000 venue owners joined the protest movement. There are even political candidates who are tying the protests to their campaign platforms.
The current result is that the restructuring has been postponed for a year so that the fees can be renegotiated.
Adam Vaughn and his residential constituency got their way because no one opposed them. |

| clubs will go north west and east. it won't be the same but people will always dance. the future is in small places 100-150 people max. |

| ...and even in private basements with 1000W systems, 10-12 close friends and no set closing time. ;) |

| Terrible city planning. Yes not every young professional moving to the big city goes out to get boozed but a young city with culture is one that has many amenities in its core. Clubs being part of that. By taking out the leisure activities and moving it to ? long term culture will suffer. If they relocate the club district to the outskirts, proper transit system should be developed |
