If you're in the market for a great vocal mic at a great price ($349), the Shure SM7B is the ticket.

This mic is highly regarded for both broadcast and music, was the mic that Michael Jackson and countless others have used, and is the "secret weapon" of many Grammy winning producers. For some reason, I'd been reluctant to give into the hype, but I decided to pick one up for the mic collection and it arrived today. I put it through the paces with a phenomenal young vocalist this evening and we were blown away. Smooth, sweet, and balanced sound and almost no compression was needed. It's got a pretty small sweet spot, but it also has very good side/rear noise rejection - perfect if you're recording in a not-so-quiet home studio.

Anyway, just thought I'd share in case anybody is looking. I've got some sessions with other vocalists coming up in the next few days - can't wait.

you can only talk about the mic in a positive light if you own a mic over 2000$. Otherwise it just looks like you are justifying being poor.

As someone that owns a u47 with original capsule among other expense microphones, the sm7 is a great mic. Also, you need at least a pair of ribbon microphones to be able to talk about microphones on a messageboard.
