Dave King - The Continuum [Breaks, Psychedelic Breaks & Tech-Funk]

For a while now I've been wanting to put together a mix that predominantly focuses on the more psychedelic side of breaks and having a bit of free time over the past few days I've been able to put this together. It starts off quite "proggy" and groovy and gets more agressive towards the end (although it never quite manages to get into full on psychedelia IMO). One of the things I really love about this style of music is the deep, rolling, pulsating bass lines and I have tried to work the transitions so that it all merges into one continuous groove (hence the name). You can judge for yourselves whether it worked (feel free to let me know your thoughts)!

Credit to fractaldreamer for the suitably psychedelic image.

That's something I noticed about your afterparty set. This kind of material is so danceable it's easy to let tracks wind down and most DJs do, but as ever you got right into the meat of the track with your transitions and kept the energy right up. It's harder to do than it sounds, as I've found out when playing around mixing this kind of stuff.

Will give this a listen, of course.

This will make a nice sound track to my trip to IllumiNaughty tonight, I'm sure.

Shame you flapped it mate! :p
JonDC
Just phenomenal, as always mate. Breathtaking transitions, energy never let's up and the variety of styles kept things interesting all the way.

Others should listen

Cheers dude  I hope your car system had enough bottom end to do some those baselines justice :p

Did anyone else take jons advice and give this a whirl?

It's downloaded and on my list, will get to as soon as I can :)

Good mix as usual Dave, mixing and flow were as reliable as ever (barring the odd tiny EQing wobble) and non-stop crunchy twisted breakbeat funk throughout. I guess if there's one thing I'd like more of here it would be a couple more "big" moments over the course of 90 minutes. This set had one absolute monster track about 49 minutes in, but was generally more about non-stop groove than stand-out tunes. Still, mission successful in that respect.

Greatly enjoyed this, as always, man. Don't have any criticism, except slightly to parrot Jack in desiring a few more big moments, but nonetheless enjoying it tremendously. Such a great groove :)
