| 99 was its peak and after 2003 it became pure , most of the time. Beginning of the end of great trance era. Tiesto, Armin, Markus? What a talentless with 4-note melodies and boring vocal. FTS. Back then I fully moved to hardtrance/dance, its was like a breath of fresh air. |

Certainly not the first peak, but this was one of the last years where the elite trance DJs were still playing good music.

I agree with the people who say 1999, if you had to choose one year. I think Paul Oakenfold Creamfields 1999 is a good example of the trance that was around at the time. But that is mainly personal taste.
It is a difficult question because Trance to me is so varied. It is hard to choose one year, other than personal taste because different styles were popular different years. For example, the Goa mix, 1994 was really cool for its' time and place and is different than the other era's such as progressive trance, tech trance, uplifting trance, electro trance, vocal trance, ect. I think there are classic tracks all across the past 25 years or so. |

I think everything post 'Another World' was an attempt to gain pop traction, and it's funny that he got the Grammy nod with his least pop-friendly mix (and his last good one, for that matter). You'd think that something like 'Bunkka' or to a lesser extent 'Great Wall' would have been more likely to get that kind of acknowledgement. Maybe they just decided in 2004 that it was time to include him, and nominated whatever in-stores-now Oakenfold compilation just happened to be out that year.

It's because 2004 was the first year there was even a category for 'Dance/Electronica' at the Grammys. |
