Hello Friends
As many people know, Platform have been doing events @ Cherry Beach
since early 2001. These events have grown over the years and have
become some of the most exciting and infamous outdoor events in the city.
Last year's Victoria Day May 20th event drew over 4500 people out
to a spectacular event @ Cherry Beach.
But today we would like to tell you about the future of our outdoor events in Toronto and the special series we have planned :)
We Present to you....
Electric Island Concert + Picnic - a new summer series taking place on Centre Island in Toronto showcases both local and international DJs/Artists in an outdoor park setting overlooking Toronto's beautiful waterfront & skyline. The island event was established by three organizers - Platform, which has established itself producing the leading techno and house music events in the Toronto area for the past 6 years, Embrace, which produces hundreds of concerts, tours and festivals across North America each year, and Footwork Nightclub, Toronto's electronic music haven recently ranked #36 nightclub in the world by DJ Magazine.
The three organizations have come together with the goal of creating a sustainable event that looks to become the event to look foward to each summer long weekend in 2013 and years to come. A section of Olympic Island will be transformed into a fully licensed (text omitted) concert area with music from 2:30pm - 10:30pm. Under an illuminated canopy of leaves, this concert area is located next to the best view of the Toronto skyline from anywhere and will offer food, ample washroom facilities, lockers and plenty of outsdor space for concert goers toset up blankets or grab a picnic table in the sun.
Headlining the first event taking place Victoria Day Weekend, Monday May 20th 2013, is SETH TROXLER (Visionquest, Detroit), recently rated the #1 DJ of 2012 by online music portal Resident Advisor. A well curated selection of local artists will complete the music bill including Nitin, My Favorite Robot, Nathan Barato, Nature of Music, Jonathan Rosa and a very special surprise guest to be announced the day of the event. Each custom crafted event lineup in the series plans to have a totally unique selection local and international talent on the bill, different from any of the previous events in the same year.
Electric Island is only accessible via the Centre Island ferry, which can be boarded at 9 Queens Quay West, near the Westen Harbour Castle hotel. The ferry runs generally every 30 minutes. Full schedule and more information can be found on the website at www.electricisland.to

This is potentially huge. And somewhat somber, no more big platform Cherry Beaches'. :(
I'm somewhat concerned about the islanders', they'll have a field day b!ithing about the noise, and it'll no doubt be strictly monitored. |

also, how much pain in the ass to take the ferry to get to the island? |

ferry is not a big problem but parking before you go to ferry is.
Great Idea though, hopefully it will work with no complaints from islanders. |

Olympic island is probably actually more sound protected from the residential areas of the island than the docks or even cherry beach.
There have been plenty of concerts gone on without a hitch in this location before. |

it's a better area than the docks or CB in terms of noise. |

Don't forget that Caribana has been happening on the island for over 20yrs. I've always said the island would be a perfect location/spot for such an event. Props for doing it up proper. |
