OK, so once again I'm considering buying Logic for my MBA. I've been collaborating with a local guy who uses it and he's given me a brief tour. Before I pull the trigger, I'd just like to know what you guys think of its drum/percussion sequencing? Are most of you just using the piano roll?

While we're on the topic, feel free to make this thread a discussion of drum editing in any DAW - it's an area that I think ALL developers could use some improvement.

Hey bro! I used FL back in the day, then moved to reason then Logic about 3 or 4 years ago and never looked back.
For the drums I use both, a combination of ultrabeat (drum synth) and then just dragging the samples direct.
E.G loops etc, effects etc I just drag but I use ultrabeat for kick, clap, snare hat etc.
Then from ultrabeat ofcourse if you prefer to pencil it in using piano roll you can...

you will like it mate! maybe we can collab once you get it! haha

I do the percussion in ableton live and export wav files
Juan Paulino
I use reaper for percussion and export as rex files.

i use redrum for drums. hands down best sample based drummachine ever (so simple, so instant, some limitations, no bullcrap).

don't you have machine ?

Not sure why nobody has mentioned battery, Seems like the only real choice.

or nerve

I have Maschine, Battery 3/4, and Nerve. The point is, my MBA won't be replacing my desktop as my main production computer, and I'm trying to keep a minimal footprint with this setup, both in terms of HD and physical space. So, the Maschine hardware won't be used (although I could use the software only). I'm mostly just interested in hearing what others' workflow with Logic is before I start installing a bunch of plugins. If I can get away with just Logic's instruments, that's likely the way I'll go, but I'm still most interested in workflow/sequencing.
cryophonik
Well, I did it. Logic installed and up and running. RANN's peer pressure finally won.
Looney4Clooney
you should also install 10.5 just to be consistent.

You can do that in Reaper?

kevin shawn
I used battery and the esx24 for drums when I used Logic.
Teezdalien
If I were a logic user I'd definitely be using ultrabeat.

No you can't. You can import REX files into Reaper but you cannnot export them. I believe you still need Recycle for that.
