Planning to visit Montreal for J00F, some questions

Some questions for the locals...
So, I decided to make a pillgrimage to see J00F at CDL. What's the venue like? does it get packed? How is the area around the club - is it like many here in states - not the kind of place u want to hang around for too long, lest u like being robbed (yeah, I'm looking at u Washington dc), or is it safe?
What are some good hotels? I remember staying in one ages ago and it had a rooftop pool with an insane view of the city. I don't even remember the area it's in - but I wish I could find it. I remember it was on a hill and had a great view of the city.
What about the language? Last time some places we visited did not acknowledge us if we tried to speak English... Is it still like that or did we just happen upon an exception?
Lastly... And this is a bit of a tricky question - how hard is it to find some kush for a non-local with no connections? Wanted to experience some "northern hospitality", if possible..:disbelief
