i start w/the bass. if i'm using my keyboard instead of my bass guitar, then i will try to make similarish sounding bass patch to the song i'm transcribing or just use a sine wave. (-depends on my mood mostly.) i found that's harder for me to transcribe when using a saw patch or something w/a lot of harmonics unless i filter it down.
after i'm done w/the bass, i'll try to transcribe the melody, then fill in the chords from there. every so often i'll do the chords after the bass if i'm only interested in the progression. |
