Recommendations on where to place studio desk?

Moving into a new place and the room below will be my bedroom/production area.

I'm thinking I should place it facing the left section of the North wall so I will be able to place sound absorption behind the monitors. Unfortunately, the room is almost square, so I also chose that wall as it'll have a little more length behind me. Also in this room will be a small day bed, and a long dresser. What say you?

square rooms aint good - youll need to basstrap the out of it as there will be huge peaks and nulls in the low end

square rooms are ideal for creating standing waves
i.e. your sound is gonna be jacked

Yes, I know. Nothing I can do about the shape of the room though. So, I'm just trying to find the best solution.

yeah look, i feel your pain, my room is as well

alls you can do is put as many basstraps as you can all over any available space, then try and measure the room response and place your listening position where response is most flat
theres some free software out there whereby you enter your dimensions and it will tell you the room modes you will be dealing with for those specific dimensions
what height is your room? hopefully not 4.23m :D

---- First, read a bit more about room acoustic issues before you decide about location of your desk:

http://www.ethanwiner.com/basstrap.html

Go down to the bottom of this article and download a wave file of pink noise that you can use to measure a room's frequency response.

---- Second, you can use this forum (or any other) to ask or get any info you desire about acoustics:

Woah weird I just noticed the dimensions changed on the floor than what I had set it at. Picture updated with correct dimensions. Height is 2.74 meters.

yeah helps a little bit, much the same dimensions as my own

run a room plot with room eq wizard or something similar, youll still have big nulls and peaks with those dimensions

do you think it would be better to be closer to the left wall and have absorption behind the monitors or sit in the middle of the wall and not have absorption due to the window, but also be further from the hotspots along the corners?

Here is first statement from the web site I listed in my previous respond - "For rooms smaller than 25 by 15 feet you'll do better with broadband bass traps made from thick rigid fiberglass placed in the room corners. Small rooms have peaks and nulls at all frequencies, so broadband absorption straddling corners is better than the tuned traps."

And is a lot more to learn from - trust me it is worth it big time as you will realize how important is this relationship between your music quality and your room and treatment of it.

Ah missed your post when I was editing. Thanks!
Seems like corner trapping will be more important than desk placement for this room? I'll check out the forum as well.

Yeah, you have almost identical room size to my lol (13x12x9 feet or in metric 396cm X 366cm X 274cm) so I can feel your pain - it is not only vertical corners which you will have to take care of but also horizontal ones between ceiling and wall which you will have to address at the same time ;) - welcome to a game!!!
