I go to Kai Alce's Distinctive party every month at ST, and hit up The Gathering at Space2 monthly, also. I dig a bunch of the artists that Cardio bring out so I'll usually catch their shows when they have headliners (their local DJs tend to be a bit boring). Wiggle Factor also throw some great warehouse parties.
Really, though, the artists and type of sound that I've been into lately isn't something that very many people in Atlanta are pushing. Stuff from labels like Dial/Laid/Kompakt/Smallville/Studio Barnhus/Pampa/Innervisions/Hello?Repeat/Haunt/Aim, combined with some of the stuff that Kai and his pals are pushing. That oughta give you an idea of what I'm into. |
It definitely does, and if these things are going off there's got to be a following for it. I just never see any of the promotions for it (with the exception of SoundTable parties). Only cause Parker, Bryan, Rob, and others, posts show up on my wall- lolol.. But yea, start posting some of the things you're going to in here so we can all be included. I know this is a trance forum but at this point I think anything goes.. |

Eh, for a variety of reasons. The Distinctive/Gathering parties target, well, a largely black audience and doesn't typically cater to the more "whiter" side of dance music. It's largely deep house/90's Chicago/Detroit techno/house. That said, the parties are still a blast and are typically packed to the gills.

Yeah, likewise. For one reason or another, they don't really invest much in their online promotions outside of Facebook.

, TA stopped being a Trance forum pretty much the day it opened. :p I used to post quite a few things here, but nobody showed much of any interest. I'll post a few things up when I see them announced, I suppose. |

Please don't post those parties! It's awesome that the mainstream crowd doesn't show to these events. Especially Wiggle Factor, love those parties and I know Darius and Dee Washington (two of the original MaddHatterRadio DJ's) want them to stay underground. |

Man, we need to get you out of your Wetbar/Opera shell. There are some pretty decent venues in the city, and if you go a bit more "underground" than Opera/Prydz, you'll find that there are a lot of shows that have really great crowds that are the polar opposite of the people you'd find at Opera. |
I'm not going to lie, and I'm sure I've mentioned it before, I don't really care much for clubbing for the sake of clubbing. I don't usually drink or dance that much, I just like the music. Going to some underground thing just wouldn't do much for me. I really only make it out for people I know are going to play good stuff. You and I disagree on what is good music, but I think Prydz is good. As I mentioned, I haven't been to a club, or any edm event, in over a year. I listen to a lot more metal than EDM, but I always like to switch it up a bit. With that said, I don't really care to be a part of the scene or anything. I think that is one of the main reasons I really don't care if the venue is Opera.
I think we can all, with the exception of Ryan, agree that Opera attracts a bad crowd. But, this is about whether the music is good enough to check out. I know Prydz is not underground, but he's not Armin either. I don't care if you like him or not, but he's got a unique style that I like. Yes, Opera is a swanky club, but why should who is there keep anyone from having a good time? Aren't there idiots at every show? I'm sure the warehouse parties have some people who you wish weren't there. So, though Opera has been a constant issue with people on here, don't make it so much about the venue. Atlanta only has a couple places where bigger names can play, so unfortunately we have to deal with it. Of course if you don't care for the music anyways, then your opinion really doesn't mean much here. |

I would hope anyone who loves Prydz wouldn't hold the venue as a sole reason not to see him. But at the same time, I'm all too familiar with the argument, at what point does that other bull legitimately interfere with the music? The last time I saw Armin at Opera, that was definitely the case. Too many douchebags running around bumping into me, asking me if I had drugs, burning me with their cigarettes...no way I could enjoy the music. Saw him at The Quad the next time, was a little weary that everyone looked 16, but fortunately no douchebags went out of their way to my night up.
But ya, let me know if the night does go well if any of you guys go. Legitimately bummed to be out of town right now just because of this. |

Well, I thought it was a good night. I enjoyed the set quite a bit. Didn't recognize too many of the tracks, but that's alright. I know he probably played more of his stuff, but the only ones I recognized off the bat of his were Spooks, Every Day and his remix of Personal Jesus. I will say that though I am usually a trance guy, I also enjoy the more progressive stuff as well.
I get what you are saying. I looked at the crowd and there were a ton of douchebags running around, yet I did not not get burned by cigarettes or asked for drugs. I did get bumped into a lot, which was annoying, but the place was packed. I wonder if the he had played anywhere else if the crowd would have been that much different. It seems to me that Opera is the only place that can handle the bigger names in EDM, with the exception of people like Tiesto or Armin who may play bigger venues. As you mentioned, the venue should not be the sole reason for going or not going to the show, though I do get the complaints. |

What did you think of the LED Stage? |

I wasn't sure how new that was since I hadn't been there for over a year. I thought it was pretty cool. I like that they moved the dj booth from the top. How long have they had that? What do you think of it? |

Since Liquified started doing Illuminate. Its been a key feature for all the shows. They've also upgraded the sound, and added a couple of additional co2 blasters. Makes recording sets impossible.. lol but keeps it nice and cool in there. I think the LED aspect was the best part. Personally? I got kind of bored dancing around looking at the chandeliers haha, but its part of the club, and so is the stage. I'm glad you had a decent experience. Gareth Emery is this Friday Night and Paul Oakenfold the week after. Come out again and party with us =)) |

Oh, ok. Yeah, I haven't been since they started Illuminate. I did have a good experience. As I've mentioned before, I try not to be as harsh to Opera as everyone else seems to be. I think the LED aspect was a good addition. I tried to look out for you, but it's since all I could go by was a very small profile picture, I didn't feel confidant enough to say anything to anyone that looked like you. I will probably not be at the Gareth Emery or Oakenfold shows, though they are both very good. I've seen them both, just don't make it out much anymore. |

| I'm usually dancing in the back, up in the dj booth, or swinging from the rafters. I try to keep a low profile- you know, being DJRYAN and all ;) lolol. . . . but I'm glad you had fun, me too.. Come out again soon!! |
