Any thoughts of either of these please.

Thank you.

Man, don't you know these forums? You're in for a storm.
djfearny
It's a simple question for honest advice.
cryophonik
How did you narrow it down to these two?
djfearny
Just want something under 1k ££ and 3 way if poss. I saw good reviews for both but would take suggestions. I know it's an endless question and don't want to start a monitor war but also I don't want to waste money.

Thanks.

Honestly, if you are talented and dedicated it shouldn't really matter that much. But I would avoid KRKs if you can. I don't know how great their more expensive monitors are but their low end stuff are a joke. Like Skullcandy for monitors. Pretty design, great marketing, product.
cryophonik
Evolve put it nicely. RANN will be along shortly to put you through his KRK "scared straight" program.

Wut? U think this is a joke, bitch?!

Fair enough. I always though krk had a good respect within dance production. But as I said I don't wanna waste money. What would you suggest around this type of thing.

Thanks.

Is there a particular reason that you want 3-ways? Unless you have a very good reason, I would not make that a primary criteria. Cheap 3-ways are just that, and you're probably unnecessarily limiting yourself from considering far better options. When you're talking nearfield monitors, more does not equal better - flat frequency response and detail is essential. Adding a third driver does not necessarily make the FR flatter - it actually makes it more difficult to tune the crossover for a flat response. So, I would be wary of buying cheap 3-ways, especially given all the proven 2-way options available these days.

If u were to spend 1k what would be ur choices to go for. I know what u mean with cheap 3 way and I want to slend money for them to last for a good while.

Thanks.

Let's just make this simple.

Treat your room, not too much, just find the reflection points relative to your monitors.

2 monitors, ear level, you sit in the sweet spot.

Don't mix with a sub.

I'm not going to get into detail but trust me, don't mix with a sub. Sub is for feeling and listening, not for mix clarity. That sub will always make everything in your mix in that low frequency much louder than everything else. Subs are for LISTENING, not production.

Make some decent music on headphones. If you can't, you probably don't need to buy monitors. Buy something else, like talent.

I will remain calm for the 1st post. Beyond that I will accept no responsibility.

Do not buy KRK. Under any circumstances.

Even if they are being offered In fact if offered for free please take them and burn them so there is no chance of someone else having to endure them. God will save a kitten each time you do this and your mixes will thank you as well.

Deep breath Rann, Think of the kittens.

Why do KRK have a rep (among those who haven't scratched the surface) in EDM circles?

1, They outspend every other monitor brand for Artist endorsement. Their model is make crappy cheap products, market the hell out of them via celeb endorsements. You're buying Kim Kardashian's cup cakes.

2, They offer better margins and biger incentives than other brands to your local mouth-breather, er, I mean sales assistant at your local musical equipment retailer.

3, They made their speakers instantly recognizable by using a yellow cone. This is so said mouthbreather can easily point to them in the demo room, and so that in those sponsored videos by [insert current flavor of the month] they can pretend to use them and fulfill their contractual obligations.

4, The money they spent/lost doing the above should have been spent on making better monitors.

The final reason is that at every single price point, I can name at least two other monitors, that have better detail, a flatter frequency response and bass extension. I'm not exaggerating.

As for a suggestion for monitors, the answers given in the thread are on the money.

There's no need for three ways. My advice is to save up to a little more money and get the focal twins. you won't be disappointed, unless your room is quite crap (and or the rest of signal chain) in which case save your money and buy some good budget monitors from either JBL or Yamaha.
