k, i posted this in the dj booth without much help, just wondering whether any of u guys could help?

like i said, i'm a total newbie, do u still have to get a mixer with the dual units? or do they come allready on them? *confused*
what equipment would u need? i saw somethin about memory cards, i aint got a clue wot they r, plz help |

Go for some TT's instead, vinyl is more flexible than cd's and you will find it easier after practice. My mate just got a Numark setup for 300 quid (direct drives) comes with everything you need (2 tt's, mixer, headphones, cartridges, etc)
Quite nice for 300 quid ;)

300 quid for these and 150 quid on vinyl is better than goin for a cdj setup imo :)

cheers for your advice, seriously though, i'm stickin to my guns, i know that vinyl is more flexible than cd's, and will ALWAYS be THE format to use in clubs, simply due to it's versatitily - you can do things on viynl that you never could or will on any other format.
But i'm thinkin bout things in terms of £££'s .. the main reason i dont want to invest in viynl is the fact that, like i've mentioned, keeping up to date with the latest releases is a very costly procedure, plus the fact that in a years time you'll have about 400 tunes that you never use again and will never shift. With cd's at least they're cheap, you get the latest , and their value doesnt depriciate like viynl (ok ;) .. i know the value of classix go up over time, but u get the point)
plus, in about 10 years time more and more people will be cdj's, i want to get an early start :p .. |

Suit yourself.
But imo buying vinyls is a part of DJ'ing in itself and comes with the job. Btw you won't be a DJ.. you'll be a CDJ
CDJ's remind me of the people who play total cheese in ty, crappy clubs and are soley in it for the pay cheque. Do you see any big name DJ's use soley cd turntables? NOPE!
Think about it before you invest in some cd tt's |

In that case you’re buying the wrong tunes & are in it for the wrong reasons. You buy tunes because you love the music, not because it’s the “latest” thing to have. Out of my collection there is not one 12” or CD I’d sell, yes that including the cheesy ones.

Do you see any big name DJ’s use only turntables? NOPE! And, if you want to see a DJ who spins a hell of a lot on CD go and check out Morillo live. He’s done several sets where he just uses CD’s. All the big names you care to mention use CD’s as well. That’s a fact right through from PVD to Clarke. I’m sick and tired of close-minded people who just dismiss CD players. As kiddiejon said, yes there are things you can only do on vinyl. However there are things you can only do on CD players.
And using CD’s to DJ fake? If anything DJ’ing with CD’s is harder. You can’t see any major changes in the tune on the medium, you cant physically stop the tune exactly where you want it (you have to use dodgy cueing methouds), etc. A DJ should be able to use any medium at their disposable, that way they can be more creative. At the end of the day it’s what comes out of the speakers that should matter, not how it gets there. |

and J00F uses a fair few CD's in his sets, as do Dumonde, Marco V etc... |

I meant do you see any big name DJ's use soley cd players in a set, not both. All the footage I have seen all the DJ's use turntables but yes they also have cd tt's but don't use them that often. Ok Morillo is the first DJ I have heard uses soley CD tt's.

I'm not usually close-minded like this but if you lived in my town you would feel the same way because all the cdj's play in crappy clubs playing constant cheesey . There is a big line between the good DJ's and cheese Dj's here.

I'm sorry for saying it is "fake" (it definately isnt, I take back what I said) I had a bad ass hangover earlier and was in a bad mood :( ...but from my experience with them I have found them easy to use but don't use them by choice.

All I’m trying to promote is freedom of choice for DJ’s, I get a little to uptight about the issue of using CD’s to DJ.
Oh and just for the record I prefer vinyl, no pun intended, because it's more fun!! :crazy: |

Hand on, a lot of djs use cd decks, usually with vinyl decks, because some of their productions are so new, they are not currently on vinyl, like pvd reworks
And mauro picotto uses cd decks a lot
I will be getting some cds decks soon, just because i cant afford vinyl :(
But hopefully when im all setup in the future with my good job, i can afford it, heh :) |

(Btw I was moaning earlier because I got in last nite at 4am and got woken at 10 this mornin :whip:, plus i had hangover :( ) I would moan @ flystyler but I'm back to my normal self again ;)
