i think that when you are trying to portray a general aesthetic that you don't want to be too specific, having people not look directly at the camera allows more room for interpretation. Thats generally why a DP would use that technique. The eyes betray your intention so it takes a really great actor or "model" to give the right expression or if you are interested , check out micro expressions. Something they teach FBI , CIA ..... With the right training, you can pretty much tell when someone is lying , what emotion they are feeling by noticing these tells to a staggering level of success.
So ya, either it is intentional or the person or band just don't have the skill to take a good picture. It is extremely hard to get 4 members to have the same intention which would not be noticed but people will notice something is off. |
