Anxiety meds and emotions/productions? (pg. 2)

There's a lot of evidence that people with some anxiety disorders respond positively to placebo treatments. If it's truly a chemical imbalance or physico-chemical-related issue, probably not. But, if the anxiety is resulting from stress or environmental factors, seems like those people would be more likely to respond.

If you are taking anti psychotic medication that will drain the creativity out of you like a goat bleeding out from a cut throat.

But it doesn't like like you will be on those, that is for schizophrenic and psychotic people. I believe you are referring to benzodiazepine (xanax, valium).

I've used it on and off for years and it's never got in the way of making music, even when I was on it. It will relax you and it might even help you with your music. Don't sweat this one.

You're quite mad. But in a good way.

It's probably worth considering that psychological illnesses are big business in the US. It's not something that can be accurately measured, so a GP can ask how a patient 'feels' and then treat it with cheap, but repeatable medication.

The problems for the most part come from lifestyle and dietary choices. food, work, school, expectations, money, sedentary lifestyle, not enough sleep, too much TV/booze/chemical stimulation etc etc.

If you're up and about and getting stuff done but still feeling anxious sometimes then you really have no need for meds as it can get a lot, lot worse. My suggestion would be to take control of it now, do some of the things that L4C suggested (cut out stimulants, eat and sleep right, exercise) while learning about meditation. It's not a placebo hippy culture exercise, it's about you taking control of your own thought patterns (in a way) and not reacting to your fight or flight system. There's much more to it than that but it takes time to practise.

I have social anxiety/depression, and I've tried pretty much everything to get rid of it. Meds never did anything, except give me a rash.
Exercising can help to a degree. I weightlift to try and improve my flexibility and gain strength. I don't advocate jogging or running because I am starting to think all it does it make you lose fat and muscle all around. Long distance runners tend to be really skinny.

The only thing that I have noticed that creates real change is meditation. Sit down, focus on breath for 15-30 minutes, then repeat.

Everyone with a treatment is trying to sell you that treatment, including psychologists. Give meditation a try, its free so there's not much to lose. Exercise is good too, and even if it doesn't help your anxiety you'll look better and be healthier.

One caveat about exercise is to take it easy and build up. Believe it or not I ended up in hospital in June 2011 as I beasted the weights too much and went into shock, actual shock. I was going through a really nasty batch of stress/anxiety and my body did not like it.

I can tell you it's probably the most awful experience I've ever had.

Sounds awful. I would like to run a lot, but I have ty Asthma, I can only really go to the gym, which is fine. Appreciate the advice.

Walking is really the only exercise you need, brisk walking at least. It's free and it's easy.
