I play these in my sets still.

It's the kind of record that will inevitably be glossed over in the polls/rankings because it wasn't trendy or edgy enough. I just checked and it didn't even get an RA review when it came out.

Even if it had a glowing RA review....do people actually care?

Review websites are becoming increasingly obsolete, but sadly a significant number of people still get their recommendations from the blogosphere, where the same few "relevant" records get reviewed by every website.

Still, Sven Vath opened his recent Essential Mix with a track from this album so it's not exactly languishing in obscurity.

i can't anyone but the younger generation of EDM fanboys being interested in any sort of poll.

as for reviews, given the wide array of genres, styles and tastes, they are so subjective they really are irrelevant.

have you ever read a review that struck the nail on the head? well there are ten more that fall flat on their face from your own perspective.

out of all the media that is reviewed, music reviews are the most redundant. they really only work if you prescribe to a very specific type of music within a community, and even then...

Well, it was released on his label (Cocoon) so that's not exactly surprising.

I am aware of that.

I've listened to it multiple times but the first track is te only one i can really remember distinctly. I think one of the reasons for it not getting the credibility it deserves is just that: It's bloody long and bloody trippy and that makes it inaccessible.

I wonder if this could have been cut down to a regular album format without really losing much of value. It's been a while since I've heard this so i can't really say at the moment.

Doesn't add up. Ricardo Villalobos would never get a review if this were true. Outlets like RA don't shy away from reviewing "inaccessible" electronic music at all, provided it fits with their editorial focus.

I wasn't specifically tackling the RA review issue, i don't think that matters much in the end. It was more response to Woony's comment regarding this being glossed over in general.

I think this record was perhaps a bit under-marketed, when I hear all those bombastic melodies and all that clever songwriting I feel that the potential reach of an album like this is so much greater. Acts like M83, the field and others have garnered critical acclaim across the field for much less then this has to offer, this doesn't even have a metacritic entry.

My copy of Blomma warped so bad I had to throw it in the trash, which was not an easy decision to make. Soon as I tried to back cue it the needle was off the track. No idea how it happened, was flat when I got it.

Edit: just ordered a new copy...can't be missing out on that lol.

While this album is probably the best example they have some other superlong tracks that I'm enjoying, like this one:
