Decent set of satellite speakers + sub for producing?

Hello fellow artists!
The situation is: I moved into Spain 5 months ago and had to leave my beloved HS80m's behind (they're heavy!). Now it's starting to look like I'm staying here. So I need good speakers.
My first thinking was HS50m's, but they do not fit on my current desk. I'm willing to make the sacrifice in sound quality (for now) in order to find satellite speakers that fit on my desk + a subwoofer. Budjet: < 200e.
I'm sure some here have this kind of setup. What would you recommend? Anyone is free to chime in! :) |

Good headphones rather than speakers. |

Agreed. Or, good headphones plus something like a Focus XS satellite system for checking your mixes? The problem with these satellite systems is that they're not designed to be flat for reference monitoring. They have dips/peaks in the frequency response to make them sound good for casual listening - not what you want for making critical mix decisions. |

I'm aware cryo. But I've heard some of the better pc -satellite systems delivering somewhat workable separation/clarity for my needs _for now_.
I'm currently on a headset :D Doesn't really make you wanna mix anything...
Good headphones, like Audio Technica ATH-M50's would be much better for mixing. But it becomes too expensive to get them AND speakers.. And I much rather prefer speakers.
I'll check out the Focus SX. |

| One satellite system that I would NOT recommend is the Bose 2.1 system. I have one of those (not used for mixing) and it sounds OK for listening to mp3s, but the sub is not good IMO. The bass is very boomy and not well-defined at all. |

| Ok. Not a Bose then. |

| Hmmm... perhaps I should forget the whole idea. Mixing on satellites would probably just feel worthless after doing it for years with HS80M's. Also I do have a room-mate now to consider. So I think I'll just get the Audio Technica's. And some < 100e satellite-system for listening with friends. |

| I take it there's not enough space in your room for speaker stands? That would get the HS50Ms off your desk. |

Satellite systems suck and cryo is spot on with the advice.
I even worked a little with BlueSky years ago, when they were developing a high end satellite speaker system with sub, and even at £2,000 for the set with the active cutoff controller they struggled to get the response as flat as £500 monitors.
You can then imagine how bad 100e sets are going to sound, and frankly, going from your HS80's everything is going to sound like mush or lacking bass.
You're better off using the headphones suggested, and then getting a cheap PC speaker/hifi setup just for listening (and a secondary reference). |

| I love having more than one reference, even if they're cheaper products, the more the merrier for me. :) |
