SSD Drive - Samsung 840 versus Samsung 840 Pro

Fair bit of a price difference between these two, is the Pro worth the extra cash???
I think if im going to install Live 9 i will need a bigger drive as only 82Gb free on my current one

The 840 pro is faster on both random access and sequential writes, so if you can can afford, you should do it.
The main reason being that audio is a usage intensive task (not so much sequential) and every little bit of performance crucial. The other difference is that the pro uses the MLC not the nand, so technically it should have better lifespan/reliability.
By the way, don't get a small drive in terms of capacity; becuase of the way SSD architecture currently works, there are significant performance increases in the larger drives, and when you're paying for for the pro, you don't want to sacrifice the increased perfromance just becuase you went for a smaller capacity drive.
Get the 256gb. |

RANN - it will have to be the 512Gb, if it was the 256 i would have already bought it!
might wait a little and see if they drop or i can get a nice deal somewhere

I had a quick look on the sites I used to use back in the UK and the best I could find was £371 from NovaTech:

If you're going to have to pay import tax (i.e. can't find it on the emerald isle) then you may want to look in to buying it from the US and the going rate is $470 for the 512gb Pro. No idea what shipping/duty would be though? |

| you won't be able to tell the difference unless you are doing benchmarking. The pro has fast writes, same reads .... |
