Anyone use this? Any real reason to go this route instead of just eq'ing out the side? It does seem to sound a little better, like it tightens up the bass more but the demo is killin my when you turn the HQ button on :/

Thanks for bringing this one up again! I remember seeing it ages ago and while NuGen's website has the design of a deskptop publishing site, circa 1996, they make some really nice and technical tools.

I'm quite the purest when it comes to mono bass and spread on lo freq so I might give this one a spin....

I'm seeing a lot of nonsense about "market leading features" and how it "grabs hold of your bass and secures it solidly within your mix", but little about what it actually is. I'm inclined to write it off just from the web page.

Is it just a linear phase high pass filter, with M/S control and a crossover, intended to be run on the side band? If so, it really seems like one of those nonsense plugins with a "cool" marketing blurb to suck people in. I wouldn't assume it is doing anything special, just because they make it sound like it does and charge a lot of money for it. A few points worth mentioning...

1. Many good EQs can already do this, as you're already aware.

2. Linear phase filters cause pre-ringing and this is only really acceptable when you have highly correlated tracks and the phase issues caused by minimum phase filters are a bigger problem. This plugin gives you no choice in the matter, whereas many EQs allow you to use both.

3. Everyone slaps "linear phase" on a plugin and markets it as a pro mastering tool to newbies who don't know any better. It's a good indicator that the product itself is crap. If linear phase was so good, mastering engineers wouldn't be using expensive analog EQs exclusively.
