Using samples is nice

Just been using a lot of one-shot samples lately for different sounds - just auditioning in the browser and dropping them in

It nice because the raw sample is what it is - you dont spend an hour tweaking the cutoff only to go back the following day and start again

The fact that its fixed is nice, you drop in the track and if it works, job done...

Im actually thinking of spending a day creating some samples of chords, bass snippets etc...just to have more of a selection

anyone with me??

OK :p

I sampled Cryophonik's mom.

Srs though, few of my friends are very into re-sampling. It can be very important for sub frequencies to sit solidly in place. Im too lazy, but great sound design takes a lot of ing work.

samplers is for drum racks and vocals and other perifral sounds like orchestra, not for replacing synth programming

unless you are resampling your own synths. Resampling is pretty much what changed in the last half decade to get a new palette of sounds from subtractive synths that just kinda all sound the same. That and adding fx completely making the original timbre non recognizable.

Re-sampling and envelope sculpting is the way to go these days for the modern sound, there are ofcourse a lot of other tricks that come in to play, im not really into that sound though. Well I lied, I am, but im and lazy.

I actually may go back to relying on samples way more.

I was delving in to my rather quite impressive Vinyl collection from the 90's and so many great tracks were heavily dependent on samples.

I think Storyteller should chime in on this thread as I think he's made some killer tracks purely from arranging samples.

Samples are the foundation for my drums and percussion. The key is finding good quality samples that have not been over-compressed etc. For one shots, you don't need to look any further than Wave Alchemy. Check out the new synth drums pack! (they can be a slight pain to tune)

I don't use samples beyond that. Basses, synths, etc. are just not versatile enough for me. I like to have absolute control over those types of sounds.

I've been searching all morning for a funk bass sample that happens to fit perfectly in this track, it's a total pain in the ass I could've taught myself slap bass and tracked the ing thing out by now
