does sick PCs really exists? the bottleneck is the connection between the individual parts it seems now at least to me. my CPU hardly ever touch more than 50% on two of the 4 cores, my SSD works effortlessly, the RAM is about 2/8gb used. what is pushed here is wifi lol. and maybe the internal cpu-gpu as i dont have dedicated gpu. its limited how much i am able to push it with input myself, i just have two arms really. the only time i push my computer is when rendering music projects, and i usually go to take dump when i do anyway so if it takes 5 or 10 minutes doesnt really matter to me.

You dont need to shell out a ton if you're not gaming or rendering high intensity video.

i would just get what was top of the line 4-6 months ago. Buying top end PC stuff is a waste of time. I mean do you really think the 4 month advantage will make a difference.

It really depends when that next architecture upstep or hardware upstep is released. Not just a re-badge.

Right now, if you're shopping for a Mac than absolutely YES! I'm on the same boat but I'm waiting for the new MacBook Pros to come out later this year. From what I read, the new processor saves a lot of battery life.

I'm buying the new Mac Pro and selling the one I have now. I'm not to happy with shipping costs but I'm spoiled so who cares. Anyway who else is game?

Ill probably spend €500 - €700 later this year to match up to the fastest stuff out there, The Drop and some other stuff is causing some crackles occasionally and i aint bouncing :p

No need to spend so much on a comp. There's an unnecessary hype on having the fastest processor these days, and it's really unnecessary. Most software isn't smart enough to make use of those cores because developers are lazy and prefer to avoid complex multi-threaded programming as much as possible.

A good audio interface is more important than having an awesome CPU. Having lots of RAM is only really necessary if you do a lot of sampling or work with plugs that depend on look-up tables (these are memory heavy). As for CPU speeds/core count, go with L4C's suggestion of getting something a few months old.

I just salvaged a full-blown 2-socket server from work and loaded it up with 50GB registered server RAM. It has two Intel 2.9 GHz processors, 8 cores each (16 cores total, 32 threads with Hyperthreading).

Before I was using a custom built AMD desktop with a 4-core Phenom 3 GHz and 8GB Ram.

I mainly work in Ableton and the performance gains have been minimal. Even though the specs in these systems are leagues apart, Ableton still has the same limitations in terms of it's CPU loading (most of that is calculated based on the audio buffer of your sound interface and the speed at which you process what's in there - in my case that's limited by the speed of my FireWire). The only thing I've really gotten a bump in is RAM - I don't have trouble with memory hogging plugs anymore. Of course, some of these limitations are probably Ableton-specific but I can't speak for another DAW since Live is all I use. This is just my experience.

More $$$ on interface, less $$$ on CPU.

The base Mac Pro is going to be $2500. Currently (without all the hardware/software bugs worked out) it's benching at 9% more powerful than the last top of the line mac pro.

That means by the time they have it worked out (assuming they don't it up), the base Mac Pro will be around 15% more powerful than the top of the line mac pro now.

$3k will get you a killer PC and screenage though, but the one thing I really don't like about the PC market is that it's dying, and that means less money for the manufacturers and less innovation as they diversify in to other technologies (like mobile chips).

It's basically going to become worse and worse to buy PC as the market contracts, and personally, I expect to see a few brands go bust.

I remember this Graphics card manufacture giving out life-time warranties. They were huge, but obviously they dont exist anymore loool.

I'm interested in the PCi Express SSD which makes a change in audio quality and thunderbolt of course.

:D

would an PCI-E SSD really change audio quality? LOLOLOLOL your such a noob still. everything you say is complete nonsense lol
