Cheers for the perma-link, Stu.

I'm not familiar with most of these, and haven't looked them up in order to check out their release dates, but is this a mix of new and old you just happened to come across from through tracking labels and artists, or did you actually roll up your sleeves and go digging around for new material? |
About a third of the tracks are new, the rest are a few years old, but any track is new if you've never heard it before, and I think most of these tracks will be new to most people. A lot of these were bought when they were new and I've just been waiting for the right time to use them. Once 3-4 years have gone past those tracks are likely to remain my secret weapons, because the majority of DJs won't look back that far. Not to mention I've been playing the likes of Fretwell and Stewart Keenan in my sets for 5 years now, so I consider them "my" artists. |

| I'm not an expert at critiquing, but some of the tracks were too twinkly for my taste. I thought that breakdown during the 64th minute was out of place to be honest. I thought it wouldve served better earlier in the mix. I didnt have any gripe with the mixing though. I would kill to mix like you. |

I wouldn't be too jealous of the beatmatching, as this was put together in studio mode, but it's nice to go back to my older mixes and hear just far my transitions have come.
I won't comment on the programming until more people have listened, but I was very pleased with that breakdown where it ended up. |

Something is not right about the quality, I think the volume is too high overall.
Good choice of tunes tho will give a full review soon. |

Check your headphones. Nothing is wrong with the sound quality. And i disagree about the choice of tunes, it could be better.
I might say Jack, every time i come across with a new mix from you i always expect really good stuff. This wasn't the case of your best work but far from be a bad mix too. Maybe because i'm slightly bored by Progressive right now or because i was familiar with most of these tracks.
I like the first 2 tracks, you really mixed them very well, sounding almost like a single track. Groovy and driven start to put my ass to dance and to grab my attention for what's yet to come. Unfortunately, the sequence of tracks had ups and downs in terms of quality. Obviously it's a matter of taste, but to me, Indifference is a bit generic and i don't like Memento, however i must say, the flow is really good. I mean, REALLY good, the transitions are fantastic.
Now it comes the best part of this mix: from Tyra to Chemical Illusion this mix shines. Fantastic vibes, just sick. Really ing good selection. Nothing to say, you nailed it. I felt that This Is Where sounded weak (again a matter of taste) but kept the flow and Silky Dirty was a good bridge for the last 3 tracks.
The final part of this mix is really nice. Loved the last transition, the way that Projection starts. I would have killed someone on the dancefloor :p. Overall a good mix...but could be better. |

Some nice tracks in here.
The first half of the mix built quite nicely but from about 39 minutes onwards, I just didn't feel it.
That being said, you did come round again with the final track. |

| An interesting variety of opinion regarding which parts people liked and disliked. Thanks for listening, and for the feedback. |

| Listened to this on Saturday while I was cleaning, and I've just now gone back through and listened again. I really love how you built the energy for the first 2/3 of the set. Nice progressive vibes. The track of the set for me was C-Jay - Chemical Illusion [Blue Tunes], this one is a real gem and I'm gonna go get the compilation album it's on. The last third of the mix was not that great for me, the tracks were decent, but it didn't have that same charm. I feel you peaked with that tune and the last bit was sort of a letdown for me personally. But I still enjoyed the mix and I got more cleaning done than I had done in the last year. Great stuff as always, I look forward to your next mix. |

| Chemical Illusion certainly seems to be everyone's favourite. Funnily enough, my worry was that people would get bored by the first half, which was all about building up the tension to be released in the second half. But now a couple of people have said they prefer the first half. Thanks for listening, anyway. |

What are you on about? :o
I've listened to this four or five times now, and truly dig it. Great listening while driving through the parched mountain passes of southern Oregon on my way to my vacation.
As Matt said, very twinkly stuff, which I love. While I recognize a number of the artists, I didn't actually know any of the songs, which is always nice. Not too sure what is what, I'll go check them out when I'm not on vacation, but I especially loved the opening track, whatever is playing at 23 minutes, 29 minutes, 63 minutes, 70 minutes, and the last track.
I thought the programming was excellent, as well. Slow build up, then big release. I don't see the problem with the breakdown at 64, either, as I felt it was a welcomed little respite in the second half.
Great stuff, Jack :) |

I listened to this about three times now and most of the tracks I've heard before and really didn't care much for, but in the mix context make more sense. It starts out surprisingly twinkly but didn't last long. The first two tracks sound like one, they really went well together, very seamless, as was all the mixing but particularly the phrasing which really helps move the set along. Progressive practically mixes itself but can really tell you chose critical cue points to help give the set momentum and harmonic mixing. The earlier part of the mix is very propulsive and Memento is where I consider the tipping point on the brightside of the mix and slowly devles into the darker side. I really liked the transitions between Indifference (Secondskin Remix) and Hold On as well as the one into Memento.
The second half of the mix is probably my favorite and just seems to chug along nicely for me. That whole chunk from Chemical Illusion to Projection was silk. In my opinion the mix seemed to go from a light to dark concept and I liked it, where it's usually the other way. I was pretty excited to see Memento and Chronosphere in the tracklist but I knew I was going to find some nice music I haven't heard before, which is usually the case with your mixes. The highlights for me were Hold On, This Is Where and See You, those became instant favorites for me.After multiple listens, virtually every tracks is used efficiently but Renumerate didn't fit, felt like it should have been somewhere before Memento.
Other transitions I like were Chemical Illusion into This Is Where, those basslines melt right into each other, probably the most seamless transition of the mix in my opinion and See You into Projection was a nice cut. Is it just me or did See You have to much bass coming in out of Chronosphere? It felt congested at first but I realize both tracks are pretty heavy.
All in all, a solid mix and look forward to more. This is most likely staying of ipod getting more listens. |

Thanks for the reviews, guys. You two seem to have picked up on what I was attempting to do with this mix. There was definitely a game plan to start off lighter and plunge steadily into dark and driving territory, but with a floating trancey pinnacle near the end providing the titular "high".
Renumerate was supposed to provide a big pay-off breakdown and euphoric riff to release the tension before getting back down to business, but I think the way I mixed it detracted from the momentum in itself, so the track creates a double lull that does feel a bit disruptive to the flow. Listening back, it definitely feels like the dividing track between two well-constructed halves of the mix. |
