How easy/hard is it to sell a car?

| So I'm helping my mom sell her car. We've never done it before. Trading it in for another car is just not worth it (there offering way below the value). What's the best way to sell a car? Craigslist? Ebay? For Sale sign on window? |

| Craigslist and use good pictures. 90% of the emails you get will be people either trying to barter or wheel and deal for some low ball offer. Just delete those and ignore it, there will be good offers. If that doesn't work after a few weeks then try Auto Trader. I think eBay takes a small % of sales, so I wouldn't use them until a very last resort of desperation. |

See what Car Max offers you as well.
There are streets where many people park their cars with a For Sale sign. You will make the most from a private party. Just don't accept a personal check, or even a cashier's check. Ask for cash or go with them to their bank to cash/transfer funds. |

| no car dealership will give you a good rate vs. privately selling. Car Max sucks. It gets most of its cars through auctions, which is even cheaper for them. |

yes and no.
for most part their rates are low, but if your car will be re-sold at another car max, and has gone thru it's initial big depreciation hit, you might get a good deal for it. has to be a fairly new car, but it's not too bad. i've sold my car there and so have a few of my friends and had equity in the car too. |
