| I have a gay uncle and my entire family is Roman Catholic. They still love him and were happy when he got married. There are lots of Christians who don't discriminate against gay people. |

| But lets be honest, those are the type of christians that like the buildings, has just been a tradition and are probably all atheists but just like going because it is what they know. Most northern catholics are like that. It is just something to do on a sunday. |

| he kinda does a disservice to homosexuals by making a track about the hypocrisy of the church being rather explicit that the priests who kids are homosexuals. maybe some are , i think pedorast would be more accurate and relevant. On the other hand, this is a great anti meth add. |

really ? If there was a religion full of people that just don't follow any of it or pay attention in any way, i would be catholics in the northern parts of NA. A good catholic is someone that goes to church on christmas eve. At least for NA standards. Nobody actually listens or cares. |

I don't think that's true at all. Sure, there are lots of Catholics who go to church on Christmas/Christmas eve and Easter only, but that's a minority. Not hating gay people doesn't automatically disqualify you from being Catholic, and it doesn't mean you're an atheist or "just like the buildings". I'm not sure there really is a definition of "good Catholic". Really under church law once you're baptized you're a Catholic for life even if you never step foot in a church again. So yeah, there are millions of Catholics (practicing, non practicing, semi-practicing) who don't hate gay people just because the Bible says so.
If there's a religion that fits the description of what you're trying to say Catholics are, it'd be Judaism. If they followed every tennet of their law, there'd be no Jews eating cheeseburgers or eating non-Kosher food. I'd imagine there are infinitely more Jews who don't keep kosher than Catholics who never go to church. |

you really expect me to account for the people that do ? I think it is rather implicit that there are exceptions. But compare that to those baptists freaks, i think you will find that catholics , for the most part kinda just don't really take it that seriously.
Go to SA and you will see some militant catholics that will give some muslim extremists a run for their money. |

| You're comparing the most widely practiced religion in the world to one with a tiny fraction of the followers. Obviously there are going to be more Catholics you see not actively practicing the religion. |

You've gone from saying Catholics don't take mass seriously... Then you point out that there are extremist Catholics as well.
Who's side are you on senator? |

definitely. But i think most would rely on the sort of moral code that atheists use. Common sense. Jesus didn't say a ing think about gays and he kinda comes across as a flamming nancy. But the pope, at least the vatican in this instance is quite clear about homoseuxality and what the official stance is. So if you are a devout christian, you don't have gays, you hate the sin , gay marriage is wrong and they need to confess or go to hell.
I am pretty sure the catholics you know don't follow any of that. So ya, I would say they just don't really take it all that seriously. Because if you do, well , i mean just think about what the christians are supposed to do, count on your fingers how many catholics you know that have property and well, make the link. It is mostly lip service. Go for the view, stay for the wine. |
