Daft Punk sellout?

disclaimer - i don't know anything about daft punk, can't name more than 1 song by them, so if this business as usual for them(pop radio music), i apologize for wasting your time, please x out of this thread.
with that said, i know a lot of members here have gotten their panties in a bunch in excitement over the fake coachella lineups with daft punk as the headliner or a fake rumored tour; so i know there is a huge following here.
but after god knows how many years of not releasing anything worthy (unless you count the tron soundtrack worthy), they release a collab with Pharrell that is constantly aired on the poppiest of radio stations in so.cal,(102.7, etc) where are the complaint threads? didn't you guys crucify Tiesto and Guetta for doing the same thing?
curious to know your thoughts about this. |

No clue what you are talking about. :conf: :conf:
In the end, I know what you mean but DP essentially came out saying they didn't care what others thought and did what they wanted to do with the album. And they haven't tried to defend themselves beyond that (not that anyone has really forced them to). Unlike a lot of artist, who make up lame excuses. DP hasn't...they just did what they wanted to do (or are at least saying it w/o much more detail).
Iin the end, it turned out to be an album that's a lot different from anything most people expected. At first I was like WTF? But a lot of tracks have grown on me -- I think if you are older, it's easier to grow on you. There's so much 70s and 80s influence and I started noticing the small details over time; like watching some movie over and over again and even after 10 times you notice a thing or two that you never noticed before and it really striks you. The Tron Legacy soundtrack was the same way. It grew on me over time.
But with Get Lucky...it's is one of those damn tracks you know is actually pretty bad overall. It's ridiculously simple and repetitive. Very cheesy. Very little effort. But at the same time wickedly catchy. So catchy is almost annoying. To the point it can drive you nuts. Because you know its so stupid, but, at least for a huge number of people, you can't help but turn up the volume when it comes on. See, now I'm annoying about thinking about it. A lot of people complain how lame it is, but those same people are the ones who don't change the station or change the tune when it comes on. I take pub trans to work every day and I can't believe how much I still hear it pumping out of people's earphone. Same when peoples car windows are down. Maybe it's an SF thing, I dunno.
Gotta say, when I do listen to the album I do skip right past it. I was over it by the time the full album was released. Prob because I had heard it 1 kagillion times already.
I don't like the whole DP album, but there are some tracks I do like and have really grown on me. I think in the end it has the average number of good to great tracks just about any other well-known album has, on average. In this day and age, people buy mainly singles, And they forget that when it comes to album, it's typically just 2-4 tracks out of 10-12 that end up being good to great. Those 2-4 tracks always made those albums, and the people didn't care how bad the rest were. But with the "single" mindset of today, I think people are not liking the majority of the tracks and thus think the album is . When, in the end, it's pretty much like any other hit album. |

| Was a never a fan of Daft Punk. never understood the hype behind it. I admit their music is good but I'm personally not a fan. The track with Pharell or whatever his name is sounds good. Let me rephrase, the music sounds good but the vocals suck. Tiesto and David Guetta just make awful music. with or without vocals. |

davet, the thing is, any catchy poppy song has the 'turn up the volume' effect like sexy chick when david guetta officially sold out.
either way, i could care less for them, but i expected some more lash back for releasing a collab like pharrell, and honestly, the 'i dont give a *uck mentality', i'm sure tiesto, guetta, etc, feel the same way. |
