Link Between Search Terms `Microsoft' and `Go to Hell' Explained
A Reuters report explains why Google search queries bring a user to see links for Microsoft and AOL after writing "Go to Hell" in the search field. And the answer is something that these big companies would be embarrassed about.
Google uses link analysis which links web sites to phrases made about them. Because a lot of people have published web pages saying Microsoft and AOL should go to hell, these sites come up in the search.
Danny Sullivan of SearchEngineWatch calls these "google blips." Another example of such a blip is when users see Disney when they are trying to find porn. This is because many porn sites tell people under 18 to go to Disney. |
