the documentary thing he done was creative PR.

I've been a fan since I heard "Gebrünn Gebrünn" on Holdens "At The Controls". His remix of Mobys "Wait For Me" was my most played track back in 2010. I wasn't too impressed by his Berlin Calling album, but the movie was allright. The Altes Kamuffel EP was a big hit for me as well, but got really overplayed.

Over all a lot of his stuff is mediocre, but he does have a nack for producing the occasional monster. Afaik he's a massive commercial hit in Germany. He is a definite would see DJ.

yeah, berlin calling is/was indeed a good film.

good guy, I am a sucker for his commercial stuff I guess.

this one has a special place for me

His Essential Mix in, I believe, 2011 got repeated listenings by me. Definite hero.

It's ridiculous how big he is. He's pretty much a pop star.

I don't like those click clacks.

One of my favorites too.

Why Kalkenbrenner as the subject for a 'genius?' thread? I've been away for a few years, but I don't recall him as having been touted as one (in or outside of his circles). But since we're on the subject, the first Kalkenbrenner piece I've heard continues to remain my favorite, and used quite wonderfully to close the second disc of GU: Taipei:
