good times

little known factoid: Phill Smith and Steve Dash were the owners of Twilo. After getting out of the vietnam war steve was working in hotels fixing stereo systems. He got his first gig engineering a sound system for a club by phil smith, at the time the owner of Paradise garage

so if it wasn't for the Vietnam war we would of never of had twilo??!?

another little know factoid: steve and phill went on to build sound factory bar with the original phazon system (at that time it was called something else) , the club that occupied the space before soundfactory bar was called private eyes , which at one point was managed by James Gandolfini

great article, never seen it before.i could never forget this room and its sounds.
never had a club experience that matches it, and don't expect i ever will. RIP best ever club of the world.

twilo was truly a clubber's club...

Haha, I just can't explain it. I've been to super clubs in Ibiza, and I've had many great club nights since Twilo. But 10+ years later, I still know for a fact that my nights in that club were the best club nights of my life..So many memories, special place in my head for that place, and that time.

I agree i have been to clubs all over and still nothing will compare to TWILO... the vibe..the people.. the music..sound..drugs you name it. It was good. You could go there solo and walk out with 50 new friends on any given night. Everything about that place was fun. Never a bad time. im in my 30's now and still can look back and have clear visions and talk about stories like they were yesterday. That place was amazing and I have come away with so many friends that i still consider great friends. Nothing has ever compared or even come close to what this place was about. Like previously said. This was a clubbers/ravers club. Heaven is all i can think of!!

yeah my cousin keeps telling me about twilo, soundfactory, limelight, and crobar. I wish i was older when these clubs were around.... :(

never made it to twilo
looking back on it now i really wish i made more of an effort to experience it
ive heard countless stories
great video by the way, you see people actually dancing, not just faceing the dj and taking pics or holding up their cellphones
reminds me of how dif the old days were

people never faced the DJ all night at Twilo, nor did DJs try much to lead a crowd with anything other than sound. the freakshow that was the crowd was the only show to be spectated. DJs besides Junior Vasquez played from a corner booth that wasn't even in the sight line of most of the dancefloor during the majority of years Twilo was open.

Twilo with Sasha and Digweed in early 2000 was my personal first proper club experience. My friend and I were only ones in thousands 'watching' Sasha and Digweed at work. They were so low key I literally had my forehead pressed against the plexiglass that separated the booth from the public quite a few times that night, simply in awe of their skill after listening to mixes for years.... we couldn't believe the ease with which they would mix four vinyl together at the same time....you'd see within the span of one minute vinyl dug out of a crate, played, headphones on, beats were matched in 20 seconds, cued, before you knew it, new sounds were pumping in the mix with a fourth channel coming in and actually felt in your body on that thunderous sound system.
