How Close is it?

Hi

I am trying to get a Trance sound.

I am looking for any feedback as I am too close to the track and I find that one day I will think it sounds great and the next day I think it is no good. I have tried comparing to reference tracks but just need some neutral, unbiased honest opinions.

I need to know what is good and what is bad and how far away this is from a professional trance production bearing in mind it is not mastered and I have done a first mix of it.

I may get it mastered but no point if it does not cut it and if i does I want to get it as perfect as it can be before spending money mastering it.

Thanks in advance much appreciated

Cheers

I guess it depends on what type of trance you are trying to create. I mean, if its the sound of today's trance you try to create, you still have a way to go. This reminds me more of the older trance (whitch today would have been labled as dance i think). So the quality depends on what you are trying to achieve i guess :)

Hi Artimes

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated.

In terms of modern trance sound, what elements of the track do you feel would need to be changed to make the track sound more like modern trance?

Thanks
Artimes
Well, to start with I would have gotten rid of the 303's and replaced them with something else. The sound of the 303 instantly takes us back at least 10 yers :P

The break is good, I like it ;)

But todays trance is much more busy and "in you face". So I also think you need a stronger kick, one with more punch. And a bassline with more layers :)

Thanks for the reply, the feedback is very useful as I wasn't expecting to get this right first time

I will probably take a break from this track for a few days and then redo the kick and bass on this track, mix again and see how it goes.
