You must have me confused with someone else. I know they suck, that's why I said "SADLY..."
Also why I said, "Take me back to the OceanLab days."
95% of "trance" lovers have no idea what Trance is. The majority dictates the market and there is nothing we can do about it unless you just want to throw a ton of money away for your "passion."
South Florida in general is a lost cause, other genres are way too popular down here and trance is getting squashed out big time.
We need a simple underground style venue that will let us bring whoever we want each week with little to no upfront cost similar to how Underground does in Tampa. |
Florida is not a lost cause, trance just died out. Deep house/techno/tech-house is what is in. |

This. Not talking about Armin, Markus, PvD, etc.
Real trance doesn't sell and it probably never will in the States. It's hard to justify booking big trance talent when you're lucky to see 50-100 people. Then you have to jack up ticket prices cause the pretentious venues down here expect to make 10 grand on the bar and force the promoter to pick up the tab.
I would love to sell tickets for $5-10, and give free guestlist/drink deals, but it's not feasible for what I currently have available to me. In the 9 months I've been down here trying to get things together, the absolute best opportunity has been Mekka, and trust me, I lost my ass on that deal.
Numerous attempts have been made to collab with other promoters, support, promote, invest, etc and none of them are interested. Big money is all that matters. |

| Always come down to money for better or for worse. The real music fans, in this case real trance fans suffer the most. |

| One thing I will guarantee: Mansion is going to be shoulder to shoulder packed. I attended the couple of PvD shows there this year and I have NEVER seen Mansion so packed, and I'm a regular. The A&B party is going to be uncomfortable and unpleasant, at least for those who are not in VIP. |

OP here... I loved A&B back in the Oceanlab days... their new stuff is awful and sadly I'm an idiot for still "believing" in them lol. I'm definitely not going to see them at Mansion though, not paying $85 to listen to the same group therapy set they've been playing for years.
That being said, I really do look forward to other talent coming to Miami where I can pay under $20 to see someone, not be surrounded by douchebags, and just enjoy the music. |

Here's some of the better shows (IMO anyways, I tend to gravitate towards the darker, banging techno as well as minimalish tech-house)
Marcel Dettmann @ Treehouse, Oct 3. True Berlin "proper" techno. This guy is a legend, he plays at Berghain all the time and is masterful at layering dark, brooding sets with many different types of sounds. This will be disgusting.
Carlo Lio @ Treehouse, Oct 10. Back to back Thursday nights at Treehouse with premier names. Place has it going on. Lio might be more "accessible" to inexperienced ears than Dettmann, he plays a lot of tech-house mixed in with techno. Not as dark but still throws down.
Sam Paganini @ Treehouse, Oct 27. Drumcode style techno. Paganini is a phenomenal producer and to me, he usually spins a nice medium straddling full-blown proper techno and tech-house. Not afraid to get dark but also plays some melodic techno anthems.
Joris Voorn @ Space, Sept 28. I'll be there for this one. IMO, this might be one of the best shows in Miami all year, across all genres of electronic music. Voorn has Digweed-like skills behind the decks and will play all sorts of music; he's not confined by genres. I'm guessing he'll play at least 6 hours. If you only go to one show, go to this. Will be absolutely electric.
Dubfire & Joseph Capriati @ Space, Nov 30. If there's a show that could be better than Voorn at Space, it's this one. Just wow. I really don't know how to think the set is going to go, as you have different styles here but still can play similar brand of music. Either way, these guys are two of the premier DJs in all the land, especially live.
I mean, it might seem like some hyperbole in this post when describing all these shows and how great they're going to be, but if you look at the shows coming up in Miami, they're truly booking just about every single elite name out there. It's not just one show a week in many cases, some weeks you have as many as three amazing shows when you look at Space, Story, Treehouse, Pickle. Some other great shows are Victor Calderone at Story, Magda at Story, DVS 1 at Treehouse, Ben Klock at Treehouse, Reboot at Space. You really can't go wrong with any of them. So yeah, this is why so many of us have made the jump to the techier side of things. The trance scene is just so ty -- there's nothing good! |

Thanks guys, and especially ucf. I will definitely hit up at least one of those shows. I am still very into trance, but open to see what all the craze is about.
I am happy that the new owners of space are doing such a good job getting good talent in there. I was at aly & fila + JoC and that was so good. I'll keep holding onto trance as long as miami can give it a chance... |
