Just an arbitrary number. I have no idea the actual percentage, but I'm sure it's very high.
Some article I read about Ultra and Molly from this year said they confiscated like 300 different samples and something below 50 of them actually had MDMA in them.
Edit: numbers were off but here's what they found
| quote: | | Miami police reports show Molly was confiscated and submitted for testing 207 times in 2011. Of those tests, 190 substances contained MDMA, while only 17 contained methylone. By 2012, the police confiscations were up to 337, a 63 percent increase. Testing showed 278 samples contained methylone and 59 contained MDMA. |

Pure MDMA has been on the decline for a long time now where I live. Mexican Mafia took over the Asian Mafia, so now there has been a flood of cheap pills since around 2002 ish. We get vicious Coke though before it gets stepped on on it's way up North.
Never tried SilkRoad though. I'm sure some a lot of those dealers are legit with that feedback system it has. Come to think of it I never really read a bad review on there except for pills being crushed on arrival. |

| It's not that the quality of MDMA is going down, it's that what they're selling as MDMA was never MDMA to begin with. Safrole, which you need to make MDMA is illegal in the US so it's incredibly hard to obtain and make, so people pass off like Methylone, BZP, etc since they have similar effects. |

Ahhh, yeah. I know what you're saying. The last good pill I got I was told it was MDA and it wasn't that bad but the last bad pill I bought was just like pure speed, I felt like I took a couple of adderall. |

| I haven't taken a pill in years. I've had molly but it was always from someone I trust, and it was definitely molly because it wasn't speedy at all, had all the positive effects, and no harsh comedown whatsoever. It looked like brown sugar almost but a lot more crystally. He called it "sass" which I guess comes from "sassafras" which actually contains safrole. Not sure where he got it but it was really great stuff. |

It's been years for me as well and that or acid would probably be the only drug I would try again. |

There was an article in a recent Mixmag about how the majority of "Molly" in the US is actually another drug (forget the name) with similar effects. It seemed quite a well-researched article, although there's always difficulty in obtaining accurate figures about illegal substances.
When the press talk about "ODing on Molly" they generally have no clue what they're talking about, but there are plenty of ways for stupid people to kill themselves with it. No doubt the US has seen a huge rise in ignorant teenagers who are suddenly obsessed with EDM and the attendant drugs, and so it's hardly surprising that this kind of stuff is happening. In the UK we have a resource called FRANK which provides loads of information about every drug you can obtain in this country. The idea is that people will take these drugs, so the best solution is to make the important information visible to potential users. That's the end result of 25 years of ecstasy culture in this country, and numerous milestones along the way. I've no idea if the US has any equivalent, but now would be a good time to start.
And to continue the tangent, pills dropped off big time in the UK for a few years. I watched a documentary a couple of years ago about MDMA use in this country and apparently up to 95% of pills had no MDMA whatsoever in them. Now it feels like they're making a comeback, and pills are more likely to provide a strong, clean high whereas MD is more likely to be cut up with speedy, nasty . |

| Was it Methylone? |

| Yeah from what I've read the effects are almost identical. Even the positive mood shifts, although methylone seems to be more of an anti-depressant kind of feeling rather than the "magic" of MDMA. Methylone is closer to a methamphetamine though, which makes sense for it leading to more ODs. It's pretty had to take enough MDMA to OD from serotonin syndrome, but if you take Methylone you could have a heart attack or various other problems associated with the strong stimulant effect of it. |

| I have a friend who suffered a cardiac incident on a night out. And then you get reports over here from time to time about pills or "MDMA" that are hospitalising numbers of people. Greedy, irresponsible dealers and manufacturers can cut stuff down with things that were never meant to go together, or things that are just plain toxic. |
