Apparently there is an Audio Production genre with B-Grade music software. http://store.steampowered.com/genre/Audio%20Production

They throw around "Legendary" and "Clasic" a lot. I just think "awful VSTi from when VSTis where unusable".

I dont think anyone knows what valve or steam is here hue. I'd buy it 85% off though, maybe I'll get some cool trading cards worth 10 cents with it. #winning

I'm a big Dota 2 player, so pretty familiar with Steam/Valve. They ruined Dota, and will ruin Z3ta+ if you don't already consider it to be .

What?!

Why would you get it on steam???

Don't they have FL studio on there to...

that be dumb.

CS1.6 NOSTEAM - allz I'm sayin'.

It won't really solve the piracy issue unless you do it through steam from the first release of the plugin. Interesting move though. Not sure it will improve the revenue from the plugins though.

Just goes to show how mainstream making music at home has become.

z3ta+2 is actually pretty good, no worse than the majority of other synths out there.

At $50, it could potentially sell in big numbers, although I'm not sure how they're going to work out the DRM etc as I certainly wouldn't allow Steam to run in the background while I was using my DAW.

They ruined everything :'( RIP CS. Its a decent platform though compared to other clients, like ea origins? I love their summer sales :}

I dont really see the problem with them selling audio programs, I would be more inclined to buy it from there. But yeah Steam's interface has gotten worse by the years.

I love Steam, it's amazing for gaming. I'm just not seeing why I would want to buy a software synth, normally used through VST, through Steam. Seems to me like a Steam synth can only be used independently.

Yup steam is good for gaming but selling VST's hmm.

I think it would be good as you could browse through different plugins from different manufacturers at the same place, and just buy or test demo's with a single click. But if it requires you to log onto Steam in order to use them it would be stupid. But i guess they've thought about that.

Steam was great for games because it allowed cheap distribution and publishing for PC games that would never have been produced otherwise.

The VST plugin market already works that way so it kind of negates that issue.

What you do have however, is a large captive market, although I suspect there will be an initial flurry of interest followed by the inevitable 'why am I not a superstar DJ yet, I've downloaded the superstar DJ app?' comments.
