Life was much simpler, before all these extended sub-genres saturated Trance. I look on di.fm after year 2002, and I just shook my head.:conf:

joop - the future (i consider this techtrance, like old marco V stuff)
tiesto - traffic (tech trance!)
adagio (ferry remix) - anthem/uplifting
summer calling (airwave remix) - progressive/uplifting
beautiful things (schulz dark remix) - just dark progressive imo.

I wouldn't worry about it. It doesn't matter.

I don't think anyone's going to do every single one of these tracks for you but it's not that hard to figure it out by yourself.
I'm also not sure what you find confusing about these subgenre's, they're far easier to define then the genre itself really.
Most are just common adjectives, some require a little knowledge about different genres.

Some pointers:

-When there's a lead vocal that feels like a self sustaining part of the track rather then just a supportive one, like if it feels you could make an a capella out of it, it's probably vocal trance.

-If it feels like the rythms carry the track more so then the melodics, it's probably techtrance.

-Melodic trance doesn't exist as a genre. It's a redundant adjective, all trance is rythmic music with a melodic focus. If there are no melodies you're probably listening to techno.

-It becomes uplifting trance when the melodies are used to heighten the energy potential, usually loud and static wall-of-sound type synth barrages.

-Hard trance contains elements of hard dance, like very blunt and defined kickdrums that carry the track on their own more so then other rythmic elements.

-There is no clear concept for what progressive trance is, you need a bit of knowledge on how progressive house sounded at the time the track was released in order to properly define it as such. The ambiguousness of progressive means you can paste the term on pretty much anything. You'll need some reference material.

-Balearic is as it sounds, laidback melodies and rick exotic textures.

-Many times the subject of what sub-genre a track falls under is not uncontested, you either go with what the creator calls it, what other people call it or make up you're own explanation. It's really not important anyway.

I think Hard Trance probably is the only sub-genre name I actually used in the early/mid 90's. Also the speed often made the difference like in tracks by Alien Factory.

Personally I tend to call it Vocal Trance a lot quicker.

Many tracks fit multiple sub-genres.

Some decent tracks in there....

Just enjoy them for what they are. As has already been said - it doesn't matter.

Why are you looking to categorize them anyway?

Whats dark progressive? Is there a difference between anthem, uplifting and epic?

idk. maybe.

If it's for your own library that's even more of a reason to not care. Just list them all as trance? Or make up your own descriptive titles, if it's really that important to you.
