-Find good current tutorials on youtube that show how to make the style/genre you want to make. If the person making the tutorial has really professional sounding music, they are probably giving good advice.
-Pay attention to the synths and samples you are using. They form the foundation of the soundscape. I think you could theoretically spend more time on this step than any other in the song making process. It takes time to find just the right kick, the right clap, just the right bass synth, the right lead synth, ect.
-Use reference tracks by talented producers to compare your work to.
-Be patient. Learning to produce quality tracks takes time. I think I have heard a few professionals say it took them a year to make their first quality record, but this is the exception and for most I think it is 3+ years. And that is putting like 4+ hours a day into it.
-Protect your ears. Try to keep the volume level soft while you are in the studio (and in all contexts).
