Anyone using tape emulations in here??
Ive dropped mix bus compressors - now mixing into the UAD Ampex ATR-102 instead, just pushing it until you can really hear it working and then backing off
Im finding with certain tape settings it dampens the harsh stuff but still keeps a presence
I demo'd u-he Satin but i dont think i need it as well |

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels that way.
I don't always use tape emulators, but when I do, I prefer Saturn. Stay saturated, my friends. |

| I feel they work better on dynamic acoustic sources, although Saturn is very useful as Dave mentioned. |

Saturn has become one of those plugins i couldnt do without really - so versatile and sounds really really good.
I picked up Klanghelm SDRR last week, nice little tape/overdrive etc plug - only €20 or something stupid like that..... |

| I like using Saturns tape emu, but only if I want to affect certain ranges in the sound spectrum. For mastering, I use Waves Kramer Tape. |

| I use reason's scream a lot. It provides a nice compression in addition. |

I used to use it a lot on beats, but listening back on some of my older stuff it sounded mushy and flumpy so I've since stopped using it.
I'll still add it to basslines though. |

What do you mean beats? Like master-bus? I've used it on the master-bus rarely, my best success with it would be here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z18ssQ4fanU. However, if I were to go back, I would split off the high end and process it differently. The mids /low mids are pretty good though. |

| pain to use but nebula is by far the one that actually sounds like tape. the other ones do neat things which is what most people are after as they kinda have this illusion as to what tape actually sounds like. |

Like for example if I had a rex loop or a redrum, I'd pass it all through the Scream4 thinking I was fattening it up. I mean, I like what the Scream4 does to the bottom end but everything else just loses clarity. |
