I just rebooted my computer and it rebooted into a BLUE window stating something about a "Stacking Problem".
Babbled on about other and also mentioned I should change something in my SYSTEM.INI file. At end also mentioned only 5 SP's allowed? WTF is this all about :conf:

Maybe someone could let me know what thats all about?

Hey just wanna say I had something like that too, only I constantly got memory dumps and my computer just reboots out of the blue.
I brought my comp to the store, they said there was an error in the windows (2000) I was using...
So be careful with illigal copies of windows

yeh your problem lies in that your stack too many things in piles so they are dangerous and might fall ove,r try spreading them aorund or creating smaller piles in future.

Well if you can get to the windows config, then you should be able to tell it not to process the system.ini file at startup and that might be a good temporary fix. But you should probably look into more thorough tech support.

And Ste, you might be a lot closer to being right than you realize. ;)

dunno about doing this in versions other than 98/se... but to change stuff in .ini files... goto Run>>>msconfig and its in there :/

Windows 95 and later versions set aside a number of extra memory pages (called spare stack pages) that can temporarily prevent a system crash due to a stack overflow condition. A stack overflow can occur when a program or a device driver crashes; Windows tries to reclaim the stack pages the errant program was using, and it fails. Since Windows can't create more temporary stack pages than it has available, you'll get this MinSPs error or another blue screen crash at start-up when the device drivers load. The problem could be related to a faulty driver. Drivers run before the OS is fully loaded, which means they rely on stack pages rather than on Windows' full memory management features.

One cure is updating your drivers. The biggest driver suspects are motherboard/chipset, disk drive, CD-ROM, or sound card drivers that load when Windows starts. Updating these should keep nasty crashes away. Another cure: increase the number of stack pages Windows has to work with.

MinSPs stands for minimum stack pages. It's a setting that tells Windows how many temporary memory pages it can create.

To change the default setting, you must open the system.ini file and add a new value. Select Start • Run, type sysedit, and press OK. Click the System.ini window, scroll down to the [386Enh] section, and add this line: MinSPs=4 (giving a number that's double the number of stacks indicated in the error message). Select File • Save, then exit and restart Windows.

This fix should give Windows some breathing room.

I love(sarcasim) when my computer just resets itself out of the blue. You actually hear the HD mechanism spin(woosh) when it does.

Another pet peave about my comp is when I download a song, right when it unzips it when the dl reached 100% the computer freezes.

when I have numerous windows open at a point the fonts beign to mold into bold colors and then AIM turns all grey and all hell breaks loose.

Hmmmm When my computer does a bad freeze. I mean the mouse just stops and even CTRL-ALT-DELETE won't cut it. The 5 sec reset button does the trick.

Plus when certain window goes bad I end-program and this kills the internet connection..must rebot right there...

if you want to know about computer problems I am your man. I literally reseted my computer over 2,000 times since I got it back in august 2000. I say atleast 4-5 times a day average
