There's nothing "techno style" about the drums - it actually starts off with a breakbeat and the slower tempo and kick-snare arrangement have it quite firmly in the House music crate.
If you don't believe me, ask Discogs
And "popping analogue like stabs" (whatever that means - my guess is that there was zero hardware used to produce this piece) are hardly exclusive to Techno. |
Tale of Us use analog synths and drum machines almost exclusively. They have an 808 and a 909. all the percussion in this track is analog 808.
They use a Korg Monopoly a lot, not sure if its what they used on this though. |

This is quite a nice track, but it turned into something different when the vocal came in. From the intro alone I could have put it a a late-00s creepy techno creation, but the vocal recontextualises it as more of a house record. I don't think the kick drum needs changing - putting a "prog" rounded kick in would make it more booming and big room-y, which goes against the more intimate vibe of the track.
I don't really see the point in arguing endlessly about which side it falls into, because a techno DJ or a house DJ could play this very easily. These terms "house" and "techno" have been stretched almost to breaking point 30 years down the line. |

Really? Everyone debating whether it's techno or house, but no fallback on the compromise of tech house?
Apparently this tune caused a kerfuffle over at RA due to an ignominious 2.5/5 rating (must be 'prog' then :p ). It's a fine track though, kinda reminds of Slam's Alien Disco era. |

| I like both the track and the kickdrum. Nice suggestion. Vocals didn't really do anything for me, might as well been without it. |

| "Tech house" no longer really refers to music that has aspects of both genres, but instead to quite a narrow and defined sound which I think we all recognise. |

nice michael myers vibe, though dislike the wavering farty synth or whatever that is meant to be, and the vocal really didn't need to be there other than to hipsterise it.
prefer this so far:
