I'm 21 and really like EDM festivals, I havn't gone to many though. . I live in california but am moving to florida this month. I wanna go to some really big ones in 2014 that I shouldn't miss. Which one's should I know of? I know of EDC and Ultra and have recently heard of Music Winter Festival. Any other ones I should try and go to in 2014.I can come back to California to attend Coachella or Vegas EDC. How do I find when early bird/ Pre-sale tickets come out? Just keep checking the website or is their some announcement when tickets will go on sale?

I'm really just going to Start going to festivals in 2014. IS florida a good spot to live at where Festivals happen?

What should I know, Really just getting into EDM music?
Which DJ's should I know of? Never rolled at a Festival before. Someone welcome me in to the EDM world!

Miami is good during WMC (Winter Music Conference) towards the end of March... I'm not sure how it is now the rest of the year.

What DJs should you know of? That really depends on the type of EDM you prefer and what other DJs you like, generally. How did you discover this kind of music?

It's certainly not an EDM-specific festival -- although there's sure to be something EDM-like there -- but if you're a fan of all things music-fest, save your pennies and make the trip to the UK to join 120,000 other people at Glastonbury. I haven't been but I know people that have and it's so huge and legendary that it ought to be on any festival-goer's bucket list. It's coming up this next June, but sadly all 120,000 tickets sold out in about 90 minutes after they went on sale. I guess in Jan or Feb there'll be another opportunity to nab tickets when some of the eager buyers that got in early have to forfeit their ticket for one reason or another.

EDIT: whoops, submitted prematurely :gsmile:

If you want to stay stateside, and I understand if you do, you already know about WMC. That's always worth checking out, partying in Southern FL while the majority of the rest of the country remains too ing cold to go outside.

Also, Movement -- formerly DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Fest) -- is a classic go-to EDM festival.

Beside that and WMC I can't think of any other multi-day, large-scale, EDM-only festivals in the US that haven't already happened this year.

Electric Zoo is another notable one, but as we all likely know, it just passed, and somewhat unsuccessfully at that. On a related note, if you go to the Electric Zoo website, they have a "Special Statement" regarding the deaths at the last festival and in that disclaimer they say, among other things, that "Drugs have no place in this celebration." -- to which I say, do they know what kind of festival they're hosting? Drugs have a unique and important place in a celebration such as that one.

What they should have no place for is ignorant, pill-happy kids that don't do their research nor practice safe recreational drug use, leading to the same that just happened at EZ a few weeks back. Granted, there are special circumstances where a person is 100% utterly and completely physiologically-incompatible with a given drug and all the research and caution in the world won't help that person once they've dosed that drug they're sensitive to. Luckily enough, however, for 99.999% of people, taking the appropriate cautionary measures ought to ensure yours and your friend's safety every time, and festivals like EZ would be nothing like they are now if alcohol & tobacco were the only psychotropics available. Uppers, downers, and psychedelics of all kinds are integral parts of the festival experience and it's ignorant at best and naive at the worst to presume, again, that "Drugs have no place in this celebration."
