Where to make friends in San Francisco?

I figure I should've posted this thread in the West Coast forum, but it looks a bit inactive, so I hope I can get more replies here in the COR.
All right, a very good friend of mine is currently living in San Francisco. She would like to meet more people, but she knows next to nothing about the city, and it's the first time she's living on her own (and in a foreign country). Hints? Tips? Are there some places where it's easy to meet new people there? I've never been a girl living on my own in a different country, so I figured you could help me out :p |

if she's even remotely able, all she has to do is hang out by herself and inevitably guys will come up and chat her up.
most will be trying to get laid, but there are enough losers out there who will linger and volunteer to be her friend even after she turns them down, in the hopes that a) she'll eventually sleep with them or b) through her they'll meet other girls and get laid. she can use these losers to show her around town. these beta-manlets usually tend to be harmless as well, so safety likely won't be an issue.
she can also join yoga and on meetup.com there are plenty of women-only groups, women are friendlier that way than guys so that's another thing she can try.

It's not exactly safe for a girl to do that in a foreign country where she doesn't know anyone, you know? :p

Click on the appropriate sub category that matches her sexual preference. Btw, since the us especially a major city like sf is very diverse she probably sticks out less than she thinks. She could go to a Brazilian restaurant or join dance club if she knows how to samba. |
