Ok so I need to vent right now. It is a little after two in the morning and I was DJing at a house party for my friends birthday. Here is the only problem. At 1 am i had to stop spinning........
It was not because of the police busting it up......
No, my dumb ass let the damn apm over heat and fry. I didnt realize that the all powerful amp my friend bought for me did not have any safety mechanisms. No, it just over heated until the point where the bass slowly died out, the mids got distorted and the treble sounded like crap. I didnt think of putting a fan on the amp and not on my sweaty self until about 12:30......
I got ed. It just stopped. The music stopped. The crowd stopped and stared...............I could not put the needle back on the record and kick the music back in because of a small up.......... I was just ed.
I am pissed and I am going to bed because i brought all my gear back and i dont feel like doing tonight.
Sorry if you had to read this......... but i had to vent and no one at the party wanted to hear it.......... I have a bout 50 people very very very pissed off at me. |

Sorry to hear that, mate. Try to see the bright side: it was a house party. What if it were some huge event? You'd have even more people pissed off at you, if they're really that pissed, because maybe they understand what happened...
Besides, you learned a lesson: doens't sound very comforting, I know, but that's all I can say. |

why should they be pissed off at you? Pissed off that the music had to stopped is one thing, but what you did was just a mistake and you're not to blame.. I would have just laughed in your face cuz I'm nice like that :D :D |

If I were all of you, including the DJ, I would be pissed off at the person who bought the amp. After all, the fact that the AMP had NO SAFETY MECHANISMS in it to keep it from overheating. THAT was the reason everything had to stop. |

Hey man that sounds terrible... what a way to bum out... but man its not your fault... it didn't have a safety mechanism...
Next time buy an amp that has one... and try bringing a fan for it...
I remmember a few years back @ a Xmas party.. had the same problem, it overheated but didn't die, so we just put wet towels around it and it fixed the problem, even though we had to keep wetting the towels each 1/2 hour... hehehe.. but no harm done to the amp or the music... the vibe was all good...
Oh yeah next time just annoounce to people the amp overheated cause the music was just too ing great... LOL the amp was going off @ the great trance??? you were spinning.. lol cheer up buddy... it'll be alright in the end...
Next time PLAN PLAN PLAN!!! |

how do u overheat an amp? i just got one
by leaving it on for long periods of time? or by pushing its boundaires (turning bass high, volume high..etc)? |
|

| usually your amp will be really hot if you have it on high volumes and/or have it on for a long time at loud volumes. My amp trips when its too loud by just turning off. |

Learn from my dumb mistake. If you are pushing an amp to reasonable boundries........ put a fan or two on it......... on HIGH. Dont pull a DJ DCS mistake and get laughed at. I got a lotta compliments..but that also came with the harsh critisms.........
Then again.. I shouldnt complain. I still got my $250.00 for DJing the nite.
So that shall go towards a new and better amp. |
